We use crates- they eat dogbeds

@Birdee106:  My mom always used different kitchen or bathroom mats as the dog’s mats.  They were a little cheaper than what some places charge for dog pillows/beds.

We have a dog bed in the living room because we got new furniture and they are not allowed on it…and we have hard wood floors, so that’s not really comfortable for them. One of them uses it, the other, a bit of a loner, just prefers to go in the bedroom where their sleeping bed is.  It’s great if we are in the living room, but if he wants to be where I am, no bed is going to stop him from getting under foot. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve nearly tripped over him in the kitchen because he just has to be where I am.

We use dog beds and the dog loves them. We keep one in the living room so she can curl up and be near us while we’re watching TV, and one in the bedroom that sometimes gets moved into my home office.  It hasn’t stopped her from wanting to get on the sofa (we don’t mind her being on the sofa and don’t try to keep her off of it) but she does tend to hang out on her dog bed more often than not.

leave the door open when you are home- that way they can wander hither and yon- once you trust them of course.  At the moment our new pup doesnt have that freedom

Yup. My dog has a bed that he sometimes uses during the day. He sleeps in bed with me at night, and usually I find him on the couch when I go home for lunch and after work, but I would say about 25-30% of the time he’s in his bed. It’s in the living room.

@Birdee106:  We have 3 dog beds in the house, one stays in my office and the smaller dog will curl up in it all day long while I’m working. The other 2 beds are on my side of the bed on the floor as both of our dogs have decided they need to sleep next to me. Without the beds, they’d want to be in our bed but with one being 45lbs and the other at 90lbs it’s just too many bodies in a queen size bed! It depends on the dog and their habits or how they’ve been trained, my smaller one I think he relishes having his own spots to sleep in the house without the larger one trying to take over.

We have a dog bed and also a crate that’s got pillows and blankets in it. During the day, I suspect he lays in his bed sometimes, but usually prefers our couch. I can’t imagine him being disciplined enough to stay there while I cook though, he’s always hoping for me to drop something ;O)

@Birdee106:   Dog beds don’t work for us in the house. In the kitchen, she’s either at the doorway on the rug or kitchen rug. Other than that, she’s on our bed or couch if we’re on there. She does have her blanket (my blanket, but she seems to think its hers.) and wherever I put it for the moment, she lays on it. I only keep one dog bed and that’s in the car. She knows to stay in her dog bed, whiLe we’re driving. She’s a chihuahua, btw. lol

My dog has had two dog beds. They both got used as humping/chew toys, so we didn’t bother getting him another one.

how about just moving the rugs when you need to use the kitchen or bathroom? Say shifting the rug to an area of the room that you don’t need to be in. Or maybe right out in the hallway outside of the room. That way at least you can see if their attachment is actually to the rugs or to the room and go from there.

We do, but we have gone through several as my dog likes to pull the stuffing out. We found one made by Kong (after I swore he wasn’t getting another one) and it has really held up. We don’t let him on the couches so we keep in the living room for him.
