I’ll be honest, mine usually get one walk a day for about 20-30 minutes. I have corgis so they don’t need tons of exercise though. I know that wouldn’t fly with a more high energy dog. They also do a lot of fetch in the house too which gets them panting.

we have a puppy cavalier king charles spaniel, and although she doesn’t need much exercise I take her out twice a day for 20 – 30 minute walks.. Otherwise she starts running around the house in circles like she’s possesed!!

We have a fenced in back yard and 2 dogs. We let them in and out all day so they can run and play then come in a sleep. My kids keep them busy in the backyard, too.

@oracle:  what kind of dog do you have? i have a shih-tzu, and we walk her twice a day for maybe 10-15 min each and she is wiped out and doesn’t want to walk about halfway through. i think bigger dogs would need much more exercise.

We take our puppy out once a day for a 20-30 minutes walk on the leash.  But we also let him out in the back yard to play throughout the day where he runs around and does whatever he wants. I  would say cumulatively  he gets about an hour in the back yard throughout the day plus the walk.

Our vet warned us not to walk him on the leash for too long or it might cause joint problems later down the line.

We have a terrible  terrier mix ( Boston and boxer… We think) and he requires A LOT of exercise, playtime and attention. I walk him twice a day, he goes to have doggy dates often and when he is in the house with us, we are CONSTANTLY playing and doing exercises with him.

I love him to pieces, but getting adjusted to his energy level and needs took a loooong time!

we have 2 small shelties in an apt with no yard. one is a puppy so she needs more exercise than our older guy. before we got the pup, we took our older dog on 2 longer walks a day, right after he eats breakfast or dinner–between 15-45 mins each–and 1 short walk for him to do his business right before bed. so, about 30-60 mins total, I’d say. with the pup, she gets 3 walks/day since she can’t hold her bladder as long and is eating 3 meals/day + the one last short walk before bed, so it’s more like 45-90 mins a day, depending on how busy we are or how hyper she is! the dogs also play a TON inside, chasing each other around, so that helps them get out their energy too

We have a small dog and she gets 3 walks a day. With the weather being colder they have been 10-20 minutes. In the nicer weather its 30+ minutes per walk.

It depends on the breed & age.  Ours is a 1.5-2 yr old border collie/cattle dog mix so we try to get him as much as we can. Here’s his schedule:

40 minute walk/trip to the dog park in the morning

40 minute group walk at lunch with the dog walker

30 minute walk when my husband gets home

sometimes an additional walk/trip to the park if the weather is nice (now that it’s dark in the evening we have been doing extra training instead of a walk)

quick 10 minute walk before bed

*EDIT: we live in a condo without a yard

My Frenchie sleeps about 20 hours a day and doesn’t require nor tolerate much exercise.  In the winter, she only goes outside to do her business.  Sometimes I take her for walks when it isn’t too hot/cold.  It’s more for me, though.

We have a 2.5 year old American Brittany Spaniel. On weekdays he gets a 30-40 minute walk in the morning, another 10 minute walk right before I leave for work (on days that I have to go to the office), and a 25 minute walk when DS gets home. On weekends he gets a 40-50 minute walk in the morning and a 30-40 minute walk later in the day.
