I have never made my dog a cake, but these http://dogs.thefuntimesguide.com/2006/02/dog_recipes_for_kong_chew_toys.php are great kong stuffers! perhaps you can take a regular cake recipie and adjust it using the items from the lists they provide? like apple sauce instead of oil (i do it all the time) cream cheese or PB instead of butter, wholewheat flour, beef broth instead of water…
i make my dogs biscuits, the recipe is wholewheat flour based with PB and stock and a few other ingredients and my dogs love it, so i bet making a cake would be even better!
Now you totally have me wanting to make one for them!
Out of curiosity do you make all your dogs meals? (I make all of my dogs meals and am always up for swapping doggie dinner recipes, if you do/want to!)

I’ve made cupcakes for my dog’s bday before…don’t have the exact recipe offhand, but it was a pretty simple beef-based “cake” (there were a few other things added) which was basically a hamburger cooked in a muffin tin with sour cream as the frosting, shredded cheese and crumbled beggin strips to decorate. I used a bacon-flavored stick as the “candle”.
fRomie thoroughly enjoyed them – we didn’t even get to finish singing!

i noticed that some of the recipes that i did find said to add either cream cheese or yogurt. I thought dairy was bad to give to your animal?

My old and currant vet both recommend giving the dogs their pills wrapped in cheese (or PB which my boy dog doesn’t like – I know, he’s weird), so I can’t imagine all dairy is bad? Now that you mention it, I think it was yogurt not SC I put on the cupcakes.

A couple years ago I googled “cake for dog and people” and found a few recipes, the winner was one with bananas as the main ingredient…unfortunately none of the adults (or the dog) liked the cake..but our 3 year old gobbled it up…I’d go with the hamburger in a muffin tin cupcakes, your dog will be happy!

Wow, this is sad that I can tell you this…. This is from two years ago (almost!!! in June!) at Dixie Bugg’s 4th Barkday Pawty.
I found the recipe here at Urban Pug! http://www.urbanpug.com/?p=320 They REALLY liked it (Dixie, her sister, and our guest doggies) and our neighbor’s doggies that we shared with the next day. It was pretty healthy for them too.
