This sounds like a great idea! I would definitely call it something else, maybe Doggie Meet and Greet. I wish I had thought of this myself. My dog, Guinness, is turning one tomorrow and I want to have a little party for him. We love our fur babies don’t we?!

I’d be very put off if it was called a shower and any mention of gifts was made. I don’t think it’s appropriate to expect people to get gifts for your dog. Just have a casual get together and let people know they can meet your new dog then.

Like I said, I will write “Your presence is your present” no matter what, so that there’s no confusion. It won’t be casual, though. We always throw epic parties with themed food, decor, drinks, and invites.

I am 100% a dog lover, and am borderline on crazy about my puppies. However, I don’t think everyone in my life loves dogs as much as you do. I think it would be odd throwing a shower or party like event for an animal. What you can do is send out a cute little invite for a BBQ and put a little note on the bottom, “We can’t wait for you to meet our new addition, X”. This way it will remind them about the dog and then they can do as they please.

Awww…”Woofstock” and “Pupapulooza” would both be such cute names for it! I agree with PP’s…call it something other than a “shower” so it doesn’t imply “gift grab”, and I think it sounds golden!!

Having a get together shortly after getting your new dog so peple can meet him and hang out? Normal.
Sending out actual invitations, hoping for gifts, and having dog themed everything? Pretty weird.
Just my opinion, of course. But I’m just trying to picture my reaction if I got an invite in the mail to a party for someone’s dog that they actually felt the need to put a no gifts request on…I would think my friend was a bit too obsessed over her new dog – and I’m a dog person!

I love this! And I’m pretty jealous that I didn’t think of it when I got my dog! I agree with calling it something other than a shower. I think “Woofstock” is sooo cute.

I know, that’s what I meant by any mention of presents. I don’t like that word anywhere near an invitation! Just my opinion.
