Can dogs sense things like pregnancy? I have heard of them sensing medical illnesses and stuff, but never looked into pregnancy. Since we’ve gotten married, whenever we’ve talked about having babies, she begins to whine and gets worked up. In the last week or so (found out on Tues, so the week before that), she’s been acting weird-getting up to go potty about 2xs per night (usually never does), more vocal/whiney and wants to play more.
Does she know I’m preggo? Do dogs sense that or do we just have a special dog?
Is there anything we can do to help her anxiety?

i think my cat know im pregnant. Ever since the beginning he has been super attentive and wanting to follow me everywhere. He likes to sleep with his paws on my bump and snuggles into my tummy when the baby is kicking.
I can definately believe the dog knows.

I think my dogs know. One of them constantly has to snuggle me, usually on or as close to my belly as possible. The other one follows me whenever I go upstairs and waits until I’m done doing whatever it is that I need to. That one also has gotten a little more vocal and is acting out when we let her outside. I really think they can tell.

Dogs and cats can sense stuff. They know life, death, everything. And maybe I say that because I am an animal love and I believe animals have souls, but I think they can. In response to what you can do just give your dog lots of love and attention. Make it a point to play whenever she wants to.

My friends dog got really aggressive toward other dogs while she was pregnant. Totally out of character. She had to stop walking him. I think they def know!

I am not pregnant yet, but I’m counting on my dog sensing it. He’s deaf so it’s a little bit harder to get him used to the idea because all the books say “play sounds of babies crying” to get them used to it, well, he can’t hear… lol I’m hoping he will sense when I’m pregnant so it’s not such a shock when a baby shows up. 🙂

I think one of my dogs knew, he would lay close to my stomach when I was laying down and stay near me a lot when we first found out. It’s like when they know your sick and need them to take care of you 🙂

My dog knew. I think she followed my husband’s clues and felt like she had to protect me. Now that the baby is here she is super protective. They try to play together now. Lol it is so cute.

@pmerr: I think my dog knew I was pregnant before me. She is my Darling Husband dog, she never wants anything to do with me. A few days before I found out she was following me everywhere, sleeping by my feet, at the end of the bed, which she never does. After I found out when we go for a run she freaks out if other dogs get near me and even nipped at a beagle. She is a yellow lab and has never done that. She has since mellowed out on all that for the most part.

I feel like my dog knows! She has gotten very clingy, even lying down on the shower rug while I am taking a shower….she hates being bathed and would not have gone near the shower before for love or treats, haha. I don’t know how she knows, but I think she does!

I think my cats may know. EVERY time I go to the bathroom they have to follow me in and rub all over my legs o_o I think they like the smell of my pee now or something lmao.

i think animals can sense it but i just want to say that if she’s getting up 2x’s a night to pee and that’s not normal, you need to take her to the vet. she could have a UTI. the previous owner of my dog didn’t take her to the vet for a UTI and it grew into a bladder stone and she had to have surgery.
