Has anyone ever done a cleanse before? I’ve heard a little about them and when I did research is wasn’t really objective to what it does and what people liked or disliked about it. Does anyone have experience doing one? I’m interested in it but really don’t have any clue on good ones versus bad ones. Can anyone let me know what their results were and what kind they liked? Thanks

This past summer I did the Renew Life First Cleanse, which is a 14 day program. There were a ton of pills I had to take every day and my diet was restricted to a mostly vegan plan. But I did get to eat!! I would NOT have been able to do a cleanse that doesn’t allow you to eat.
My experience was great the first 3 days – had more energy, my body felt great. Then on day 4 I got really sick with flu like systems. And that lasted through almost the rest of the cleanse. So I wasn’t totally thrilled with the whole experience.
I have a lot of friends who have done many different cleanses and it seems to be very normal to get sick while you are cleansing – part of the body’s way of getting rid of all the toxins. I probably had a LOT of toxins!
As far as using the cleanse for weight loss – I lost a total of 3 pounds. So, kind of mixed results and I’m not sure if I will cleanse again.

I did a “total body cleanse” from GNC. I’ve heard that, with a good diet and exercise plan, you should cleanse 2x a year. Well, I don’t know if it was the cleanse, or just the healthy (almost vegan) diet plan that came with it, but I lost 5 lbs that week. Personally, I don’t think the cleanse did much, but the diet that went along with it did.

I did a 7 day detox from GNC….got a bit annoying after the first few days of taking pills and mixes, and eating like a rabbit, but I did lose about 5 lbs, which really kicked off my reason for frequenting the gym more often….

hey ladies! is the gnc cleanse expensive? I’ve also thought about trying it but heard all the stuff that comes a long with it is pricey!

@franks.katie: your body never needs an artificial cleanse, it does it naturally.
@wyomingbride: you’re not getting sick because your riding your body of toxins. Most likely it is because you aren’t getting the proper balance of nutrients or enough calories.
Cut out the processed crap, eat lots of fruits and veggies, reduce your intake of red meats and starchy/white carbs, and only drink water. Your body will thank you and you won’t have wasted your time and money. If you don’t have enough self-discipline for that you probably wouldn’t make it through a “special cleanse” either.

@nut9108: I agree. The body and all of its complex systems is already made to cleanse itself naturally.

@nut9108: Yes, I learned that after taking the cleanse – the only reason I did it was after a trainer (who I no longer use) said they recommend it. I now only eat “clean”, and I have never felt better!!

@nut9108: I agree 100%. Also, a lot of people who lose weight on a cleanse are either losing water weight or losing weight from not eating enough calories to maintain basic bodily functions, which will just be gained back once you start eating again.

I agree in that I’ve heard cleanses are not necessary and not beneficial. I would just eat healthy!

I’m sure any doctor would tell you not to do them. They are pretty bad for you and get rid of bacteria that you actually need in your digestive tract.

My doctor thinks the cleanse I did contributed to my blood clot because it majorly dehydrated me.

I too have read many times that a cleanse is not only a bad idea but can be dangerous. I’ve been tempted, but. I say don’t do it.

It cost me about $35 or so…I was also working with a trainer, and I was under my doc’s care…no reactions here. I heard it was only bad if you misuse them by taking them too often or as a way to lose quick pounds. The pack came with herbal pills and mixes, and it tells you to drink plenty of fluids because of how it rids the body of toxins…Ive only done it once, and things worked out fine. Just talk to your doc about it if you are unsure…good luck
