I don’t see anything wrong with it…if the parent does than they would just distract their kid for a moment.

Not a fan of this tradition. As another posted pointed out, it has some icky roots.
I remember seeing them as a kid and not thinking anything of it as being a clueless child I didn’t connect it to anything sexual – watching them as an adult makes me cringe a little even if I am not a prude by any means. Regardless, I don’t think you should worry about either age group. If you like it, do it, everyone will manage.
spoilerssweetie : That’s hilarious! I’m normally not a fan of the garter toss, but I do like pranks…. 😉
MrsTeacup : He was really confused how I stuffed those up there without him knowing!
I am not a garter toss kinda gal but Darling Husband really wanted all the traditional “stuff” at our wedding so this was my way of adding a little bit of me into the event. 😛
marriedtopizza : Throwing petals down the aisle before the bride has the same origins. Red rose petals are meant to symbolize the virgin blood the bride will shed that night. Ew. Yet the vast majority of weddings still do it.
Imsouldeep1989 : just like most public displays of affection children finds them icky and turn away. It’s no big deal. Almost all adults assume that it will happen at a wedding, if they choose to bring their kids and then get offended by a tradition it’s kind of their own fault.
We’re doing the garter toss and the bouquet toss back to back and we relly wanted the kids to be there for the bouquet toss, so it is what it is! There will be no blatant innapropriateness in the garter retrieval though!
