Hi my bees,
Has anybody ever done their own makeup for their own wedding?
I have a passion for makeup. I am no way shape or form a professional but i know what i like and have done my own makeup several times and recieved lots of compliments. One of my bridesmaid is also quite good at makeup.
So do you think its doable or am i joking myself?

Totally doable. My Future Sister-In-Law is doing hers. The only reason I decided against it is because I’m the sort of person who would stress out if I made a mistake.

You know what looks best on you, and if you are confident of your skills, why not? Miranda Kerr did her own make up for her wedding…
I personally didn’t. But that’s because my make up skills max out and putting on sunblock and compact powder…

Every wedding I’ve been in except one the bride did her own makeup. So for sure it can be done!

If you have skills then sure. I am terrible at makeup so I wanted a professional but no problem if you are confident that you can do a good job 👍🏻

I did my own makeup for my wedding. All my birdesmaids did their own as well – we’re all pretty confident in those skills. It was honestly such a nice bonding moment for me, all the girls gathered around a big table doing our makeup and sharing advice and products. I ended doing my moms makeup as well. I think everyone looked fabulous and it was waaaaay cheaper than getting a MUA in to do our faces.
If you have the skills and confidence, I say go for it!

A makeup artist in London was around £300 so I just went and spurged £300 at Charlotte Tilbury and am going to do it myself with help from bridesmaids. So much better you can keep all the lovely makeup! I usually don’t like how MUA do it anyway.

Kate Middleton did her own makeup! I think if you’re good at it, that’s for sure the way to go. You know what you like best, and you never know what you’ll end up with if you hire a makeup artist. Also a great idea from the previous poster to splurge on some fancy makeup that you get to keep for yourself!

The last wedding I was in, the bride ended up removing most of the makeup artist’s work and redoing it herself because it didn’t look right.
You know what looks best on you, and if you’re confident in your abilities then go for it.

emilyjoanna : your comment makes me feel better about my wedding this Saturday. I love doing my makeup and will be doing mine and my moms. We thought about hiring a makeup artist but they’re so expensive and we waited too late anyway. We did hire 2 hairstylists though. I’m not good at hair.

I plan on doing mine myself. We need to save money in places in order to splurge in others and this is one place I’m happy to cut back on.
I have a couple of friends who are make up artist trained that are going to help me get the right shade of foundation etc and then I can practice ahead of the big day. I prefer a more minimalist look anyway and get really twitchy about other people being near my eyes so it just makes more sense to do it myself.

pinksugar85 : Ooh congrats on your upcoming big day! My advice if you’re doing your mom’s as well – do hers first! I did my moms after I was done my own as it was a last minute decision and I was kinda nervous and sweat a bit – didn’t ruin my makeup but I didn’t feel as fresh. And take photos once you think you’re done – the makeup might not translate as well in the photos so you can touch up as needed (blend more, add a little deeper eyeshadow, etc)

emilyjoanna : thank you! And thank you for all of the advice, it’s very helpful 😀

I do think it’s do-able, but I wouldn’t personally just because I wouldn’t want the pressure on the day of to make it perfect. I’m sure I would mess up because i’d be nervous!
