So, I have a question about all of your experiences with dollar store tests and FRERs.
As of right now, I’m still waiting for AF. I don’t chart, but I track AF with a few apps on my phone just so I get an average with cycle length, etc.
Last 5 dates for AF:
Then the BFP and then MC Dec 8
And AF returned Jan 8 (exactly one month)
Apps told me I was due for my period Feb 9th and still nothing. I have been obsessively taking dollar store tests every day (a way to be neurotic and not broke LOL) and they all seem to be negative. On today’s one I can see some kind of line if I squint and hold it right but it’s too faint to show up in photos and too faint to tell if it has any color to it.
My boobs are a little sore so I felt like AF could maybe be coming but I have no cramping or anything so its throwing me off because I usually do before she visits.
I don’t wanna splurge on a FRER unless you bees have had significantly different results. For those of you who took $store tests and FRER’s, was the line much darker on either one? I’m trying to figure out whether I should do a 4 hour hold and go for the FRER today or if it’d be a big waste of money. I can’t waaaaaaait.
My name is Mrs. Sunshine and I’m a POAS addict. 🙁
On a funnier note, I was watching some lifetime movie the other day and these people had a TOILET that was like “HCG detected.”
I need one of those. :X

If you got a squinter on a dollar store test, I’d probably splurge on the FRER. Or give it one more day, do a dollar store again with first morning urine and be prepared to do the FRER tomorrow.

Yes – I used a dollar store test the morning after AF was due and I got a faint second line. I waited a few hours and used a FRER and I got a super dark second line.

I used a walmart 88 cent cheapie (which is the same as the dollar store ones, I’m pretty sure) and I got a suuuuppperr faint (could barely see it) line and a few hours later I tested on a First Response Gold digital and a ClearBlue Easy digital and they both said “Yes +” and “Pregnant”. I know you were looking for a comparison to a FRER, but I had always thought the digitals required a higher amount of HCG (I could be wrong) and to go from a super faint line to a really fast-appearing positive on the digi was really cool. I think the dollar store/walmart cheapies are less sensitive, or at least the lines don’t get as dark as soon as they would on other test. Just my opinion. Could be wrong.

Sorry I have no experience with this personally, but if I had reason to believe there may be a line on the cheapie, I would probably splurge for one of the ones that is cut and dry – “pregnant” or “not pregnant”.

@MrsSunshine: I don’t have any first hand experience, but there is a sticky post on the main TTC page about test sensitivity. And according to this website http://www.peeonastick.com/hpts.html ***First Response Early Result recently began citing their official sensitivity as 25 mIU, but one clinical trial found it to detect 12.5 mIU/mL consistently. And the Dollar Tree (and most others) are listed as 25 mIU/mL. Do you think its possible you ovulated late? If you saw a faint line today and have another cheapie test I’d say use that first thing tomorrow! Good luck!
