Hello fellow Wedding Bees,
After extensive research I have decided to get married in the Dominican Republic!! My wedding will be in August 2017 with approximately 40 guests. I am debating between two locations: Kukua and Huracan Cafe. My budget is about 15K for the ceremony and reception (excludes travel/hotel & wedding dress). I am looking for feedback from past brides and want to know if my budget seems reasonble. Can someone please share a breakdown of average costs for items such as photographers and hair/makup artists in this area?
I would also like to get input about a few all inclusive hotels: RIU, Melia Tropical and Majestic Colonial. Which is better? I want to find a nice resort that doesn’t cost a fortune for my guests.

Detination weddings in the summer months are the worst if you are doing an outdoor ceremony. Your guests have to get dressed up and wait in the scorching sun usually with no ventilation for 30min-1hr. You should keep this in mind when planning the time of your ceremony.
we just got back from a destination wedding in Punta Cana in Feb and it was uncomfrotably hot during the ceremony at 4:30.
The bride spent about 20k and did the ceremony and reception off the resort. It was a beautiful night and she did get a lot of extras, so your budget seems resonable.

Thank you! I am a bit concerned about the hot weather but August happens to work best for most of our guests. Do you recall the name of the venue for the wedding you attended?

I got married in Cabo, so a different area but it costed about 10K (excluding trip/rings/dress/honeymoon). I would think 15K is definitely enough. Are you getting married at the hotel? Check out the hotel websites for cost ideas. They should show packages. We got married at a RIU. Are you booking through a travel agent? Maybe they can give you a contact at the hotel for more information. They should have wedding planners onsite. I definitely suggest using a travel agent! By The Way, I got married in August too because two parents are teachers. It was hot but totally fine. The ceremony was only 20 mins. Everyone had a great time.

Thank you! I feel better about my August wedding now. 🙂
I’m planning on getting married off the resort. The two locations I’m considering have wedding planners and it sounds like they are both great! I’m hesitant about having a wedding on the resort. I wanted something a little more private and some resorts didn’t even get back to me with their information (other than what is on their website).
Thank you for the travel agent suggestion. I will have to look into that!

Hi stephflo! Are you part of the Punta Cana Brides FB group? There’s one geared towards the off resort restaurants (Hurucan, Jellyfish, Kukua, etc) and just about vendors in general in Punta Cana. There’s tons of ladies who have had their wedding or are planning it at all of the different off resort venues. We’re doing an on resort wedding but the group is still super helpful.
Majestic is an amazing resort! That’s where we’re staying/having our wedding. We’ve actually been there twice before and get great service every time. Even the most basic room type is still the biggest hotel room we’ve stayed in!

Thank you!! This is very helpful! I was not part of the FB group but just requested to join. 🙂

Dont go with Caribbean Celebrations company for your decor, they charge you an arm and a leg and think they can take advantage of you.

A lot of resorts have a full service option for weddings – you could probably get away with 10k if you look for the most reasonable options. I’ve never stayed at the others but I know the RIU is gorgeous. Alsol and Hard Rock are great, slightly more pricey options as well.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe is great (where I’m getting married). I also heard the Jellyfish is a good reception venue.

I am getting married at Breathless Punta Cana. I love the Dominican Republic. My resort has given me some great oncessions. It also applies to my guest

I stayed at Now Larimar but had my wedding off resort at Kukua Beach Club. I loved them both! Now Larimar was a great choice for my guests. It’s not too big compared to other resorts in PC. They have a large variety of food and entertainment (beach parties and fire show). It’s not the most luxurious resort but it worked well for us. Everyone had a great time!
