A conversation with my SO:
“Why don’t we have my cousin’s daughter as a flower girl?”
“I don’t know her, what’s her name?”
“Uh… erm… that doesn’t matter!”
Am I unfairly dominating the bridal party if the ring bearer, flower girl, and 2 jr. bridesmaids are my relatives? SO’s relatives live all across the country, I’ve never met any of them, he rarely talks about them, and doesn’t seem close with them (see above). Whereas, I have a huge in-state family that’s super close to me and my SO has met at our family parties.
Reasons I picked the flower girl and one of the Jr. Bridesmaid or Best Man
- I was the Flower Girl at their parents’ wedding
- The Flower Girl is the only little girl both me & SO know
- SO & I are really close to the other Jr. Bridesmaid or Best Man, but I didn’t want this Jr. Bridesmaid or Best Man to feel left out since she’s the same age and her sister is the FG
I’m wondering if I should just skip the Jr. Bridesmaid or Best Man altogether? Or maybe ask SO’s niece to be a flower girl? I don’t want to offend any of his family, but I also want Jr. Bridesmaid or Best Man and at least have those two as my Ring Bearer & Flower Girl.
