Any bees been to DP? FI’s best friend and his wife just went for their 5 year anniversary and loved it. I believe they paid $3,100.00 for an all inclusive, flight included 6 night, 7 day.
I’m not opposed to going, I’ve never been out of the country (besides Canada) and we aren’t leaving right away after we get married…..so financially it is completely doable, just want to be sure if we are going to spend the money, it’s worth it.
Any suggestions on where to stay? Where to avoid? How your expierence was.

I went to Dreams Punta Cana (not the palm beach one) about 3 years ago with my Fiance and it was amazing! the staff was excellent adn the grounds were well kept. The restaurants were great and even the buffet was retty good. Beds were extremely comfortable as well. The onyl thing I woudl change is that we got the VIP service and it cost an additional 500 for both of us but I don’t think it woudl ahve been any different if we didn’t get it.

As a born and bread Dominican living in Toronto, you can’t go wrong with anywhere in Punta Cana, La Romana or Samana. I will steer away from Puerto Plata or Santo Domingo if you want a luxurious and relaxing honeymoon.

I went to DR twice and stayed in Puerto PLata the first time and Cabarete the second time. Cabarete was nicer by far but I found the poverty off the all-inclusive to be disturbing so I won’t be going back. My Fiance said that Punta Cana has beautiful beaches but the poverty was an issue for him too. We go to Mexico every year and I much prefer it. If you are planning to stay in the resort, then anywhere is good as long as the pools and beaches are nice and the restaurants get good reviews.

Good information, as we’re considering a DR honeymoon!

I haven’t been there in years, but when we did go you were basically told to stay at the resort the whole time. We don’t really like hanging out at a hotel for our whole vacation so I don’t think we’d go back again, but if you want to eat, drink and lounge on the beach it’s probably a good option.

MrsFarm0619: stayed at the Majestic Colonial in November 2012, wanted to have my wedding there this year but they had no availabilities…regardless, I can’t wait to go back.
One thing I do suggest is to make sure your honeymoon isn’t during spring break. Even the best resorts will overbook and such during this time, especially all-inclusives.

Not Paradisus Punta Cana…food was TERRIBLE! I recently returned from El Dorado Seaside Suites in Riveria Maya…amazing time.

My Fiance and I have been to Punta Cana 2 times. The first we stayed at the Iberostar Grand Bavaro Hotel. The 2nd we stayed at Excellence. We personally preferred the Iberostar grand, we thought the service was far superior, the quality of the resort was much nicer and overall for a honeymoon I would recommend that hotel. We also have had friends that stayed at the Majestic Elegance and had great things to say about it. Overall – because they are all all-inclusive and there is not a ton to do off the resorts, the experience is going to be farily similar with a 5 star resort. You need to think about if you want to be on the Atlantic side of the island or Pacific side because the beach will be drastically different (Excellence has rougher waters, there was a red flag out when we were there) – Iberostar was much calmer. Overall, the beaches in Punta Cana are some of the most amazing I have ever seen and you will have a fabulous time! I have detailed reviews for both of our stays on tripadvisor if you want to message me I can send you the links. good luck! 🙂

Punta Cana for my honeymoon in my previous marriage. We had our honeymoon suite on the beach and it was glorious! The people are super nice and it was just wonderful. The only thing I would criticise is the quality of the beaches. However, since I am from the Caribbean, I might just be a bit too picky that way. I am used to beautiful, very clear water and the DR did not offer that. However, they get a ’10’ in everything else. Good choice!

We are getting married in the DR in October this year at the Majestic Colonial. We stayed at the Majestic Elegance which is the sister hotel 2 years ago and it was the most beautiful hotel. It has an all adults side at both hotels which you can upgrade to, which gives you some extra benefits which we think were well worth the money!
The staff were all really happy and friendly all the time and couldnt do enough for you to make your stay enjoyable. With the adults side you do get 24 hour room service along with a butler – who will make dinner reservations for you, fill your jacuzzi in your room and decorate it with rose petals etc – perfect for a honeymoon!!

I have been to DR twice – once to Puerta Plata and once to Punta Cana. I must say that we are completely done with DR. Both times we were there, we did not find resort staff friendly at all. Also, DR has really bought into the whole “Royal Service” upgrade thing…so even though you’re paying for an all inclusive vacation, you need to pay MORE for upgrades that would normally be included in the set price at other resorts. When you’re already paying to stay at a 5 star resort, the extra $1000 to be upgraded to something you should be getting anyway is really frustrating.
I would recommend Mexico over DR is you’re looking for a similar price point. The Mayan Riviera is beautiful and the staff are friendly. Check out the Bahia Principe in Mayan Riviera – wonderful resort!
Edited to add: Definitely go with Punta Cana over Puerto Plata. The resorts are much nicer and the food is better.
