I’ve never been but I know several people who have gone to Riu Republica lately and it’s said it’s not all that amazing. I don’t think it would at all be on the same level as an Excellence Resort. We are going to Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana in May. We have been to Secrets before and love the chain, very nice for a honeymoon.

I stayed at the Hard Rock Punta Cana and it was lovely! It’s a huge walkable resort with some gorgeous beaches.

One thing I didn’t care for about Punta Cana is that it is VERY humid.

The Excellence is wonderful! We went several years ago and had a great time. It’s just down the beach from the Hard Rock.

taylornicol :  I’ve stayed in two parts of D.R, puerto plata but I can’t remember the hotel name and I stayed in punta Cana, loved both trips! Someone on the bee asked about hotels in punta Cana a few weeks ago so I’m just going to copy/paste my response lol hope this helps!

“OMG I love Punta Cana when I went we stayed at an All inclusive resort (its called majestic ELEGANCE). First of it is super affordable but also Gorgeous! Everything is included from alcohol (even at the bars) to the food they have multiple restaurants and buffets in the resorts (SUPER delicious food) and the are all free as well. They have a night club and daily shows (like magic shows etc) I loved it and highly recommended! I loved that everything was included so the only things we paid for were outside activities (like horse back riding etc)

We also highly recommend looking into Majestic Mirage or Elegance, great rates with a feel of luxury all around. Also look into the Now resorts. Riu Republica is wonderful but may have a party atmosphere according to recent reviews.

Hey bee πŸ™‚

I just got back from our honeymoon at Riu Republica.  We had booked through sunwing and booked for a honeymoon package. We were dissapointed that we did not have our welcoming honeymoon perks in our room like decoration and complimentary room upgrade and we even brought a copy or our marriage cert like they asked upon booking. I don’t know if this was a mistake on sunwing or the riu replica to be honest.  Anyways we did not let it ruin our trip and brushed it off. We did ask for a room upgrade and we got a bit of an upgrade to a higher floor with small ocean view. Just a heads up there are 2 big sand dunes preventing a view of the ocean from the resort. But a pro for the sand dunes is on windy days it blocks the wind from the pools and bars. Ample bars and like 7 pools! 3 swim up bars! Entertainment was good live music was nice!

It was nice that it was adults only I must say. there were like 6 or so a la cartes.  A few of which have appetizer buffets and then served mains. Others have served appetizers and served mains. The kulinarium (sp?) Has wonderful steak! I was so suprised and the tuna tartar appetizer was fantastic as well! We enjoyed the kulinarium and the Spanish (ole) restaurant the best and ate there 2ce. The second time we splurged and bought a bottle of wine and took our time dining. Steak there was also great!! One thing is there are no reservations so you either want to get down there right at 630 pm or go at like 730-8 otherwise there’s at pretty big wait.

The drinks were good. I felt that the staff were incredibly nice and always accomodating. Never waiting more than a few minutes to be noticed/served for a drink.

The buffet is pretty decent compared to other barfetts πŸ˜›

No one hard selling stuff on the beach which was so nice, I did buy a nice piece of Larimar in a pendant form which is mined exclusively in the DR! Very pretty!

The beach- the waves will beat you down! It’s fun for 20 minutes but if you want the calm waters when you walk out to the beach from the resort turn right and walk about 1-1.5 kms to the right past the little point and the waters are nice and calm and perfect for frollicking! Worth the walk! 😍

The beach is safe to walk along in the night and we asked for a bottle of champagne and walked down the beach one night it was so perfect.

The rooms- every room is the same, you get a robe and a stocked mini fridge with 4 bottle of alcohol to take shots or mix drinks in your room lol. Over all it was very nice but didn’t feel majorly luxurious and it wasn’t nessesarily romantic. we’re pretty relaxed people and this didn’t bother us. We did check out the Royalton which was hella lux only they will try to hard sell you on buying into their membership program which is BS when you go on your honeymoon,  just spent a tonne on a wedding etc and just want to relax. If you have the money to stay a bit of a nicer resort you should. But the riu was just fine, clean, good food, great staff, adults only, beautiful beach, etc etc. Any other questions just ask! Hope that helps! πŸŒŠβ˜‰

hard to complain honestly when you’re in such a beautiful place! I’d cut off my left foot just to be back right now, riu republica or wherever πŸ˜›
