Hi bees! Fi and I are trying to plan the honeymoon (yay!!) and we are leaning towards Punta Cana in the DR. Future Sister-In-Law stayed at Majestic Elegance and loved it, and I’ve read other great reviews about the resort.
My question is, for those of you that have been to the DR in/around October, how was the weather? I understand rain storms come up, and probably go pretty quickly, but how severe/long lasting are they? Are they severe enough to deter me from going to DR that time of year? Thanks!

We were married last 9.29 and were in the DR from 10.1-10.8 and had no rainy days. There was one day that it got dark on the golf course which was in from the shore but it never actually rained on us. We stayed at the Hard Rock bc we had heard about possible bad weather and there is tons to do at the hard rock but literally every day could have been spent on the beach or by the pool. I think there was one morning that we woke up to wet sidewalks so it must have rained overnight but we were in bed by 11 and didn’t notice.

@The_Future_KB: you asked…

Well October is one of the worst months in hurricane season… June 1 to December 1 (with the most & strongest activity happening in August – September – and October) and the DR is smack in the middle of the Greater Antilles where the majoriy of storms pass thru.
So ya, it wouldn’t be a spot that I’d be looking at for October.
Example… Hurricane Sandy, hit the island of Hispanola (the island shared by DR & Haiti) in 2012… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Sandy#Hispaniola
You can GOOGLE – October Hurricanes – for more examples… but it doesn’t really matter, the point is August, September and October are the worst months of the lot.

Thanks ladies. I’ve seen reports from both persepectives. It seems most places we’d like to visit will be at risk in October, but we took the jump and booked Punta Cana…and good travel insurance just in case!
