I am a makeup artsti in the Bay Area. What I usually offer to bride’s who’s wedding I am attending as a guest is to offer them my services as a gift. I usually do the bride’s hair and makeup for free and each additional service outside of her’s I charge a lower rate. Of course, they don’t have to take the offer and in which case we’ll by the couple a gift.
I wanted to get other opinions on this. If I’m not forking over a x amount of dollars, is it misunderstood for being cheap? In my defense, I am saving them $400 for my hair and makeup services.
I’d like to know everyone’s thoughts!

No I don’t think so! I think you are giving them a great gift! I would totally go for that then a chinaware.

An old friend of mine is doing the same thing. I tried to hire her, but she’s not having any of it and is gifting me her services. 🙂
Welcome to Weddingbee! You probably missed our self promotion policy – as a vendor we ask that you not post links to your business on the boards. I’ve asked a moderator to go ahead and remove the one from post for you. We hope you stick around to join the general discussion though!

I had a couple of friends offer to participate in my wedding. One of my bridesmaids is my hair stylist that I’ve known for over 15 years, so she did my hair. Another friend of mine is a violinist, so she played during the ceremony. I basically told them ahead of time NOT to buy us a gift, as their gift was making the day so special! I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way!
Here they are (sorry, I can never resist an opportunity to post pics):

I would much rather have free hair/makeup then a gift.

@janekimmer: I would LOVE that as a gift! I think you’re being very generous.

Completely agree…would LOVE that as a gift. So I am going to pay for all of it for my Maid/Matron of Honor as her gift. She is unemployed right now, and I know she would appreciate it more than a gift she’ll never use again. I am going to buy her a necklace or something else small –
