I think they’d appreciate any amount, but think about what you would have spent on your favors! $2/guest might be reasonable, but it all depends on how many guests you have.

We’re planning on making a donation to Habitat for Humanit and a local food pantry.  $2 per guest per charity.

We’d know that not everyone is lucky enough to have a home and a meal to count on everyday and when we’re celebrating something so wonderful and happy, we’d like other people to share that in some way.

And i didn’t feel like tying ribbon on 250 votive candles.Tongue out

I was thinking $1 or $2 per person.

we’re donating to the american cancer society, as both of our families have been affected by cancer. we’ll probably stick to between $1 – $2 a guest, but my company also offers a matching donation.

just a helpful tip too, if you get in touch with (or visit the website of) whatever charity you choose, they usually will print up and send you “favor cards” for free announcing that the charity donation is your favor. the acs let us design ours too. just a thought if you’re thinking about going the charity route!

I was wondering the same thing…

i am having difficulty choosing which organization to donate to. I work the homeless mentally ill & was hoping to donate to The Drop In Center that many of the people in our community who are homeless go to….

however, before i thought of this my fiance & i agreed on donating to the Down Syndrome Foundation because his aunt has DS and i have worked with the DDD population for the last 10 years.

We can’t afford to send them both a hefty amount so I dont know how to choose?

Also, How are you informing your guests? Via table card? Some Organizations give this but some don’t..

How much would you donate if it wasn’t for a favor?

We did $2/ person and divided that between several favorite charities.  We used tokens so that people could vote on the charities of their choice!

I have tossed around the idea of a donation as well, but have a question.

We donate actively to numerous animal charities and that’s where both of passion lies. Would our guests think it was a nice gesture to do this in place of favors…or would most be like…”oh, whoopie doo” because they don’t share the same passion?

Did that make sense?

Mrs DG that’s a great idea. How did it go over with your guests?  Did anyone comment on it?

I think we’re doing $2 per guest to the MS Society – my little brother has MS, so the cause is near and dear.
