Anyone else doing a donation as opposed to favors? If so what organization are you donating too and why?
We are donating to S.U.D.S (Soliders undergoing Disabled Scuba), both of us are very passionate about scuba diving and my fiance is active duty military so we feel this is very fitting. We thought about doing American Cancer Society or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to include my grandparents who have both passed, after several discussions we have decided to include my grandparents but in a more discreet way and do a donation that is a little more happy. With the wording on the donation to the later organizations, it put a really somber mood on the day.
I am interested to see, what other organizations you have all choosen.

We are donating to the American Diabetes Association. My mother, sister’s boyfriend, two of FI’s uncles and a few other friends and family member suffer from both Type I and II so we felt it was a good cause.

We aren’t donating in lieu of favors, but we are encouraging donations in lieu of gifts.
We are older and have everything we need, so we only registered for a honeymoon fund. But our primary request is that people donate in our names to one of two non-profits:
- American Heart Association – in memory of my father, who died of a heart attack at age 42 (when I was 16)
- Susan G. Komen for the Cure – in memory of the groom’s aunt, who passed away this past July after a 15-year fight against breast cancer
In both cases, we set up donation pages on the organizations’ websites, and then placed links on our wedding website.

We donated in lieu of favors to the American Brain Tumor Association in honor of my father who passed away when I was 13 of a brain tumor. It was a nice way to remember him and lots of people said they found it touching.

We are donating to the local Humane Society, where we adopted our pets. They do a lot of good work in our community.

We donated to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto because my grandmother wasn’t able to make it to the wedding due to her illness. They gave us little packets of Forget-Me-Not seeds with our wedding info and info about the Alzheimer Society on it which was very nice of them. I also ended up making homemade caramel for everyone because I can’t resist homemade caramel 😉

We want to donate to the hospital where his father passed away. My mom thinks its a horrible idea and that there should be “real” favours. I really dont care what my mom thinks at this point… I hate favours and most of the people I know throw them out. So I’m so for a cookie and a donation!

@tranquility, I have to say its True. I worked catered events at a wedding location and when the wedding was over, we all went home with FAVORS gallore and also lots of decorations. It’s suprising how much you spend on stuff that gets LEFT or THROWN out. This is why I decided to do the DONATION.
I donate to St Judes at the end of the year ALWAYS! So when I heard about S.U.D.S I knew this was our place to donate. I wanted to include my grandfather who just recently passed, but mom asked me not to, it was really hard for our family to loose our center rock. Instead I have decdided to use one of his shirts which is a PEARL SNAP to wrap my bouquet in. I absolutely LOVE this idea!!
I am happy to see several peoeple donating to all these great causes, its a great way to give back to the community!
