Oh no! I’m glad they turned up! We added my husband to my account before we got married, and we didn’t have a problem depositing any checks even when my married name on them, because most of them had both of our  names, and his was still the same. Maybe our bank is lax though…

I thought you were going to say that you screwed up someone’s bank account by waiting so long! Haha.

I lose EVERYTHING, so I can totally see this happening to me…but I honestly hope that if people want to give us gifts, that they give actual stuff and not money…is that weird? I’ve always hated getting money as a gift…I guess I just know that it’s going to go straight to bills, and I want my gifts for fun stuff!

I would have flipped out, too, though…losing money makes me CRAZY!

@BookishBelle:  I imagine that people who give money as gifts keep up with their accounts pretty well, it’s just what first popped in to MY head, b/c I haven’t been keeping up with MINE very well lately!

We went through the ATM and had no problem depositing them.  I’m so sorry you had that stress!  Glad it turned out well!

glad everything turned out ok. we all have moments like that.

we deposited our checks a few days after the wedding on the same day we left for southern california (where we were moving). we were already on the road when i suddenly realized that a check was missing. it was from my uncle and i didn’t remember seeing it when we were at the bank earlier that day.

so i called my mom and asked her to look for it. my reception was at their house, so the place was a bit of a disaster from the aftermath. she and my dad searched high and low for it- they even went thru the trash to make sure it didn’t get mixed in with wrapping paper. couldn’t find it. they came across an empty envelope with my name on it, but no check.

when we finally reached our destination, my husband and i started going thru boxes hoping to find it- nothing.

a day or two later, my mom texted me to see if we’d had any luck and that’s when it hit me: my uncle hadn’t given us a check. he gave us cash! i was thinking he had given us a check because i remembered seeing my name, but he wrote my name on the envelope…the empty one my parents found when they were looking for a check. i felt so bad making everyone stress over that, but we were all relieved that the mystery had been solved.

so yeah, don’t feel bad. we all do stuff like this 🙂

I HATE it when you think you’ve lost something important!

My worst scare ever was last Easter when Fiance (then bf) and I were going to go to Bermuda. I started to pack the day before the trip and then I couldn’t find my passport… I literally searched non-stop for 12 hours. Turned the house up side down, went through the basement, went to work and checked in my office, called my lawyer where I had seen it last – couldn’t find it. I was totally beside myself and Fiance was comforting me saying it didn’t matter, that Bermuda would wait for us and that we could go up to our cottage and have just as nice an Easter there. Right before I was going to bed that night, still crying, Fiance found it in the most stupid place (my baking drawer?). I was so happy I cried even harder!

So we got on the plane, landed in Bermuda and then Fiance proposed to me – I can’t believe he kept calm during all the passport drama. Especially as he had hidden the ring in his home office and I searched through that as well. Just so glad I didn’t find it then!

Oh, and I loved your wedding recaps!

@BookishBelle: Looking back, it makes for a good story, but then it was horrid. That first confusion when you can’t find it, the increasing panic and final defeat… awful. So I can imagine how you felt when you couldn’t find your checks. Very happy they turned up eventually!

hmmm, i never thought about this. I’m not changing my name legally but going by his socially.  What do I do about the checks if they write my first name and his last name??

@Lily_of_the_valley: it wasn’t a problem at my bank. they just had me sign both last names.
