@Merry02: I used to work at a bank (before I even got engaged) and I always had customers just give me random don’t ever get married advice. I can’t imagine what it would be like if I was actually engaged.

@Miss Short Dress….sorry I want to take my commetn back at the beginning…I thought there was a specific reason as to why people would say these comments bc no one said anything like that to me!! from reading all these posts though it just seems like there are alot of really bitter, cynical people around and some brides get the brunt of it!!! Sorry you have to deal with this!

Wow I would kick someones ass if they had the nerve to say that to me.. All I’ve gotten are countless “congratulations” and “you two are perfect for each other”. Basically we were both miserable before we met, and our families realize that. So yeah, I would be mad and say something pretty snarky.
Keep your negative, jaded opinions to yourself! We know the statistics… geeze.

It does piss me off how so many people tell others “don’t do it!” Someone recently told me (or I read) that they got engaged in public and someone random yelled that the moment after it happened. How rude!! I sometimes wonder if this mentality is why so many guys wait so long to propose–those ppl got into their heads. I say don’t listen to them–they are probably single and only saying it because they are jealous that they can’t keep a relationship of their own.

Now that I think of it…we took our wedding pics before the ceremony and we were downtown. I bus drove by and they stopped and were taking pics of us (it was a tour bus) and one guy asked “are you married yet” my husband yelled “no” and he said “good, you have time to get out!! run!!”..I just laughed and yelled “Get that bus out of here” and the whole bus started laughing….
I think in this case it was just joking. I have been to a stagette though and the girl had JUST turned 19 (like two weeks previous) and some old guy keep rambling about how she was making a mistake, she was to young, dont do it, your stupid and on and on…it was awful and uncomfortable…
