I just scored 8 pregnancy books and 3 pregnancy work-out DVD’s for $35!!
I have always been a HUGE fan of craigslist and I plan to buy some baby items on there.
You should never buy a used car seat….and I hear a used crib is also not the best idea. But there are SO many other things that you can buy used. From changing tables, baby swings, jogging strollers, rocking chairs, etc…
People don’t use baby items for a very long time and they are eager to get rid of them because they take up so much space.
If you are like me, and are going to be on a tight budget, don’t forget about your local thrift store and craigslist. You can find things in great condition and all it takes is a little cleaning or washing and they are good as new!
Also, there is a great book called Baby Bargains and a website for the book also. It talks about all the things you don’t need, and the things you don’t need to buy right away.
There are so many ways to save! It’s a little scary to get ready for a baby when you are on a budget, but it’s empowering when you realize that there are so many ways to save and that you don’t’ have to buy EVERYTHING at first.

I totally agree! I’ve also been periodically checking local second hand stores in my area. There are a couple that cater to moms/babies/kids and a couple furniture places. I got B1G1 on baby clothes a few weeks back, getting 8prs of pants, 12 onesies, a jacket and a couple footed jammies for $30.

Loved Craigslist when I was preggers with Moose. We have a pack and play, clothes, a lay down and play thing, and I can’t remember what else just waiting for Wombat. Don’t forget about Ross, TJ Maxx, and Marchall’s. We have a $15 bouncy seat from them. However, remember don’t buy a used car seat. Those must be used in case they were in a wreck and no one said anything.

I have bought so much stuff off Craigslist…
Swing and bouncer
And more stuff too…
Also, if they have Mom 2 Mom sales in your area, ladies, go! They can have fantastic deals and all you have to do is wash the stuff and you’re good to go.

@spraguebride: great deal! another suggestion- mothers of twins groups!! you can search for ones in your area online. they have sales usually twice a year (around here they do them april and oct). a lot of the time people end up getting 2 of things that they should have just gotten 1 of, and most don’t plan on having another baby right after, so they like to get rid of a lot of the double baby equipment overtaking their homes!

I check my local one almost daily. 🙂 I already scored an exersaucer that was practially brand new (some parts still have the original plastic on it) and it came with the original box. And it was well under half the store price.
