My hubby and I just got back from our honeymoon and all I can say is they are awful! Such a complete waste of money! I mean we had fun.. but only because we made it fun. We spent an arm and a leg leaving the resort because the resort was so awful.
The food is nasty. The only good food is dinner and even that there are only a few resturants worth having.
Room Service came into our room and threw out souveniers and papers that I wanted to keep.
Room service was in our room every three seconds..
oh.. and the rooms. They are not completely awful… if you upgrade. Even then.. there is nothing that seperates the bedroom from the bathroom except a sheer curtain. Then the door to the toilet is glass.. so if you feel comfortable going to the bathroom in front of your hubby then ok but otherwise… ahh!

Blah – that sucks that you didn’t enjoy the honeymoon as much as you should have, but I’m glad to hear that you guys went ahead and made the best of it! Thanks for the Public Service Announcement…glad we avoided Secrets when we booked our honeymoon for October!!

Wow, Ive been to Secrets St James when it first opened back in 2010. Got it dirt chep because it just opened, sad to hear when new placeas take a turn for the worst. As for the food, i have been to several all inclusive resorts and i will probably never do it again beacuse they all serve pretty sub standard food… I would prefer to venture off and go to resturants where the food is edible and you get your money’s worth! Sorry to hear you had such an awful time.

My Fiance and I are going to Secrets Wild Orchid for our honeymoon. We’ve heard nothing but good things from people we know who have gone. Even from a friend’s boyfriend who is from the area. No offense, but maybe you just have very high standards.

That’s why I am so fearful of the ‘disney world’ style resort chains. Of course, this has kept me from booking anything so I don’t currently have any honeymoon plans (oops)…glad you guys made the most out of it. I can’t believe they threw out your stuff – did you make a formal complaint??

Sad to hear you had a bad time. We had our Destination Wedding wedding there and stayed in the Preferred Club on the Wild Orchid side, and we really had no complaints. The food for our wedding was amazing and we enjoyed the french resturant and the mexican one as well. I didnt find any of our stuff missing and our room was filled with wedding stuff for a few days…..and room service was great and they didnt bother us at all. My only two complaints were that our room wasnt ready when we arrived – and for the money we spent, it should have been ready – and the wedding team didnt know how to bustle my dress. Other than that I would go back in a heartbeat!!

@lyndzo – high standards no. Maybe you should reread my post as the things that were awful were standard things that you shouldnt have to deal with. Maybe you will have the best honeymoon ever and thats just fine but I was just voicing my opinion.
I stayed at the St James Preferred side which is although in the same resort area, is different. It is the opposite end of everything.
After all said and done, just for the room and flight we spent $5500. I would expect for that cost that we would go there and our room would be ready. That we be treated with respect when they make an error. Dinners are amazing and the people at the bars are great but the other meals.. were not. I have pictures of the fruit in am (you only have one resturant thats open to all) but the fruit there was completely covered in fruit flies.
In my opinion, which is what these boards are for, its not worth the money.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience! Planning to revew my vows at this resort next year as Hubby and I didn’t have a wedding. I will be sure to post my experience to help out other brides.
