Darling Husband and I have been invited to one of his school friend’s wedding. They’re not very close now but still meet once and again.
Now, I just realised the wedding is on a Friday…. We’d love to come but Darling Husband doesn’t have a lot of holidays this year and we’ll use them up on a trip we have planned.
In the UK it’s quite common for you to be invited either to the reception (with a seated lunch), or to the evening reception for not so close friends. We were invited to the afternoon reception which is lovely, but now I’m thinking I could just ask the bride if we could come just for the evening bit instead? or is that too rude??
I thought about wording the RSVP like this:
“I’m really sorry we can come as we won’t have enough annual leave this year, but would love to come say congratulations to you in the evening.”
Or something to that effect.
Is that ok, or should I just decline the invitation altogether?
