Well depending on where you are located the price will be a factor and to keep in mind if you go to Australia or New Zealand it will be opposite season for them.

I wouldn’t go to Australia/NZ unless you are okay with it being winter, as someone pointed out:) the best time to go there is in our winter, their summer…..

I’ve done a lot of travelling, so maybe I could be of help. A few questions:

What month would you be going on your honeymoon?

Are you looking for a beach holiday or more of a sightseeing one? Or a combination?

It kind of sounds to me like you want to visit a city. Australia and NZ are both wonderful, but the airfare can be steep (Quebec can be steep too, depending on which side of the country you are flying in from–I was just there and it was lovely. Montreal is like a European city; Quebec City is charming (if a little touristy)). Personally, my recommendations for international travel are Argentina and Turkey–both places have been my favorites for a long time.

In the US, you have tons of options. Some places you might consider visiting: New Orleans (there is gambling but you don’t HAVE to get on a riverboat cruise), San Francisco (I know you said no wine, but you can explore the coast, which has all sorts of sort of lazy NoCal towns), or Key West. FH and I can’t go on a honeymoon this year, but one of the things we want to do is rent a great car and road trip through the South from like, Tennesse to Louisiana.

Ah, but if you are interested in Montreal, or Asia–go! Montreal is lovely–it is truly bilingual which is a kick I love, has lots of interesting shopping, good food, day excursions–you know, it’s a metropolitan city. We had poutine, saw the circus, biked around…It was really relaxing. Oh, but don’t even think about going in the winter. You walk aroudn in the SUMMER and think, “man this place must get COLD.” I’ve never been to Asia but everyone I know who has, says Hong Kong and Tokyo are amazing! I personally would love to see Singapore or Malaysia.

As far as Argentina & Turkey go, I had no problem navigating, especially in Buenos Aires and Istanbul. Istanbul is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world with strong tourism and quite a few people do speak English (and a lot like to practice!). And it’s just a beautiful city–great food, great people, so much stuff to see. Fewer people speak seem to speak English in Argentina, but I don’t speak Spanish and it was fine. I even went hiking in Bariloche (the wine/skiing/lake region, so smaller town) and was fine there.

Thank you so much for the road trip tips! We’ve never done one together and someday, we’re gonna get us a sweet car, load up on books on tape, and let’s face it–eat our way through the South, from Graceland to Fat Tuesday :)…Once we start saving again after exhausting everything on this wedding!

Indonesia has great weather during July. Bali and the surrounding islands are gorgeous and you could mix a bit of beach, with some relaxing, and some sightseeing. The flights aren’t cheap to get there, but once there, the hotels, food, and tours are very reasonable.

July is also winter in South America and a good time to visit. I personally loved Argentina, which is not super-expensive. Peru and Bolivia were my absolute favourites, but may be a little to adventurous for what you’re looking for.

I probably wouldn’t go to Europe. It’s prime tourist season, will be busy and is expensive. The one country I would consider, though, is Portugal. Loved Portugal. We rented a car and drove around the country for 2 weeks. Fabulous, reasonably priced and really easy to get around.

If you’re staying stateside, I would highly reccomend Wisconsin. Especially Green Bay. I know it’s off-season for the Packers, but you can visit the hall of fame and Lambeau Field. Visit Bay Beach and the wild-life sanctuary and … JK!! (haha) I just liked reading this too! Thanks for the ideas, sorry, I had to crash this board 🙂

Croatia Croatia Croatia!! It sounds like everything you’re looking for and the only expensive part is the flight – land costs are totally affordable!! PM if you want more info but it is an amazing place, we had a ridiculous time and I can’t say how awesome it was enough!

My Fiance and I just had a great trip through http://www.europeandestinations.com . We went to Paris, Prague and Budapest! It was so perfect! Prague, by the way, is absolutely stunning! Budapest too! Paris…well, it’s Paris. It’s just not my cup-o-tea! The prices are DEFINITELY right on that site and you can customize your trip based on destinations you want to go (including Turkey, Egypt, Croatia etc if you want to go that direction!)

It’s worth a look if you’re looking for ideas!!
