Okay i think im finally ready to start planning my wedding. The funny part is im already married (as of Dec 07 10). Im military and had to leave for a while so we decided to go to city hall. I always envisioned myself with the beautiful gown. So that’s what im going to do. I get alot of reactions like “your already married, why waste money”? I simply say put yourself in my shoes. I am in the military. I have no say so when i have to pack up and leave the love of my life. So yea im entitled to have the ceremony i’ve always wanted.

Military or not, you can’t get married to the same guy twice, so what you are planning would be a vow renewal. I have many friends who have been in your shoes, and they either planned their weddings quickly, or waited until they and/or their husbands were back from deployment.

Of course you’re entitled to it and it’s your money, you should spend it however you see fit. There will always be nay-sayers but do what makes you and your husband happiest. If you always wanted the big celebration to honor your marriage and vows then have it. Personally I’ve been thinking up opportunities to have vow renewals in the future (and I’m not even married yet) just so I can have an excuse to get dressed and have fun all over again.

Thanks ladies! Sorry i forgot to put that our ceremony will be a mock wedding/renewal. I really appreciate the warm response.

We were in the same boat except for instead of being military, my Darling Husband lived in Canada and we needed to get married to get his Green Card. We had a small civil ceremony with just our immediate family and 8 months later had a bigger wedding/reception with our friends and extended family. And we considered it our wedding, not our “vow renewal” because we never said any vows at our civil ceremony, we only signed the marriage license. And even if we did, who CARES what you call it??? It’s your special day, call it whatever the heck you want!
Everyone who loved us was thrilled to celebrate with us, no matter if we were already legally married or not. I’m sure you will have a wonderful celebration with lots of pictures and memories, just as you’ve always dreamed.

Pfft, don’t listen to the naysayers. This is for the two of you! You guys should celebrate each other. 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you have planned!

Who cares what others think! Every woman deserves this special day with their families/friends/loved ones. And its your money/family’s money! Im sure plenty of family members wish they could have been there, if they werent!
So have your dress, and your cake and eat it TOO!
