Very first thing to do is sit down with your fiance and decide what you absolutely must have and what you can do without and don’t want at all. Then decide on a budget, then a ballpark guest list, a date, and scout venues and other vendors. You can’t do anything other than gather ideas you like until you get the budget and venue picked out and reserved.

 

Tons of folks get married everyday with next to no money and have been doing it for eons. Afternoon cake and punch is very traditional and elegant, as well as inexpensive.

@S.Elizabeth.G:  You know what amazes me? That I am a wedding planner and have all these organization techniques for brides, etc, yet I cant seem to get my shit together. Id say either get one of those bridal books (yes they actually come in handy) or start your own binder. Keep track of every dime spent for the wedding, all contracts. 

Choose a date that means something to you. Try to at least give yourself a year. If you think you can do it in less…then you are my hero and all brides who do plan their weddings in less than a year are my hero.

As far as budget, know what you want to spend on each aspect of the wedding and dont settle for less. Always remember….EVERYTHING CAN BE NEGOTIATED! The bride is always right.
