The nice thing here is that you can also see price ranges, so you can really narrow it down by designer range and style. Once you get a feel for what you like, look around and see what shops in the area carry those lines.

I find that dress lines and even shops are often organized by themes. So, if you are going at random and happen to end up in ballroom-princess-dress land, you’re not going to have any luck. If you find a designer that carries a look you like, odds are that a store carrying them will, in general, be more geared toward that look in general.

Don’t get frustrated! I went into 5 places and tried on sooooo many gowns before I found one that I remotely liked! Trying them on is very different from seeing them on the hanger, but even then – you may need to have patience!

None of the dresses look good on a hanger or in a garment bag.  You have to try them on!

And try on everything. You never know when something you “hate” will turn out to be your dress.  I bought a dress I didn’t even want to try on, it happens!
