Tell her no! Have you talked to your mom about hiring people? Surely people work for her?

you can always hire event staff through a staffing company at an hourly rate. since its a buffet, you wouldnt need more than maybe 3 people (depending on number of guests). it would be inexpensive and would keep your moms hands clear of any work 🙂

I agree with clairdarling. Maybe post something on craigslist and interview a couple of people with serving experience. Times are tough, people are looking for jobs no matter how long or how much they are.

I have this feeling your mom will somehow get involved in the serving even WITH hiring help. I went to a wedding where the brides family cooked the food. The MOB brought out the food and just replinished when necessary but let the guests dish their own plate. It worked out well. Maybe you could just hire a person or two to make sure the food is replinished when need be, it would cost less than having them dish it to your guests.
