Sorry, not my fave,  but then again I think cake should have its own food group.

Seems like a modern update of the traditional croquembouche (especially if they’re cream-filled!).

I’d be happy with a donut!

I might be partial because we had donuts instead of cake.  I made cake stands and had 6 different kinds of donuts from a local donut shop that’s actually about to be featured on Food Network (what’s up, Blue Collar Joes?!) on one of their challenges.  Everyone loved them because they weren’t just your typical krispy kremes.  I’d post a picture but I’m at work.

Cool! Though sometimes I don’t like doughnuts if the dough is too sickly or have jam in. I like the ring ones with the icing on.

I’m biased.. My grandparents own a donut shop and I’ve been thinking how fun it would be to have a donut bar at the wedding. Hehee!!

I voted “meh” but I think it CAN be awesome if done right. The ones that are just krispy creams stacked on cupcake towers…. totally meh to me. But if it is stacked up with interesting donuts or in a pretty way and/or if there is a really cool story as to why you’re doing that (you met and fell in love while working at krispy kreme, your fam owns a donut shop, you’re both donut fanatics)… then go for it.

I agree that it just has to be done right. The picture of all powdered donuts is meh but if you had different interesting types than it could be awesome.

@shining_star: Small town bakery? Awww, come on–what’s wrong with a few Timbits?

(j/k–not from Canada, but I visit now and then and I do miss Tim Horton’s iced coffee)

@shining_star:  I’ll be sure to post one that I snapped right after it was set up when I get home.

We had 7 kinds:  Blueberry pancake breakfast (blueberry donut with maple glaze and bacon bits…amazing!), Reeses Pieces, Caramel Apple Pie, Strawberries and Creme, Botetourt Bog (chocolate on chocolate on chocolate), German Chocolate Cake, and Glazed for the traditionalists.

That sounds sooo tasty. Maybe stack/layer different kinds of donuts (think colorful frosting!) to make it really aesthetic?!

Fiance would LOVE this!  But I think I’d have to veto that.  I want my traditional cake.

I showed the pic to my Fiance and he was horrified.  And he LOVES donuts.  So it’s a nay from the lezlers house.  I think it might be okay if it was in addition to a traditional wedding cake, but not in lieu of it.  It’s just really hard to make donuts look elegant, you know?
