if i don’t eat a donut fresh, it usually isn’t that good anymore.  i’ve had donuts a couple hours later, but the next day, they start to taste a little stale.

I was thinking the same thing- donuts will be stale and not as appealing by the time they are eaten, but some other treat that wouldn’t go stale might be a nice substitute?

There’s a reason people do donuts instead of cake, not donuts as favors.

If you still want cake, and you want donuts, you could do a dessert table with donuts 🙂

Commenting to follow, I’m playing with the idea of making mini donuts for favors, or desert table.  I was planning on freezing them after making them and taking them out day before wedding etc, but not sure yet.  Have to make trial run this weekend to see if I like them since I haven’t made them before.  I’m a pastry chef and our venue (with in house catering) encouraged me to do a desert table with things I made to make it special, and since I know how to make these things in bulk.  (Totally borrowing work kitchen for it).

kbam2016:  If you buy them that morning I think it will be fine. I would also see if you can track down a donut shop rather than a grocery store, because they might have more exciting flavors/decorations plus I think they tend to taste better. 🙂

kbam2016:  We are planning to do donuts with the option to eat there or take them home. There’s a local bakery in our city that makes donuts with fancy flavors that is really popular and we plan to use them. Someone is going to pick them up a couple of hours before the wedding so they won’t be more than a few hours old at the event, we are also indicating that people can take them with them or eat them at the wedding if they want (for those who don’t want to store them overnight).

We did taste tests with our friends for my birthday this year with the donuts. We picked them up early that morning and packaged them in the same way we would do for the wedding, so they were stored for about 12 hours before they were eaten. Everyone loved them and thought they had held up great. This may be partially because this bakery ships and provides the donuts for events often, so they may have worked on recipes that help to preserve freshness and also partially because of the fancy flavors (perhaps all the bells and whistles hide any “staleness” that may have set in throughout the day).

I would agree with a previous poster that donuts from local bakeries may hold up and be “fresher” longer than store-bought ones. I’d also recommend doing a trial run like we did, it made me feel a lot better about it! It was also fun to do with friends.

Good luck!

Could mini pies be a possibility?

If you end up doing the donut thing, go to a donut shop, not a grocery store.

I would contact a local bakery and see if they can prepare them and place them in some sort of packaging, or provide them with packaging that you can buy on etsy or something. I know of several bakeries that have prepared different items for wedding favors.

I love donuts so much, I’m actually having donuts as my ‘wedding cake’! i love it and I hope other people will like it too because it’s soo me and my fiance. If I was a guest and I get donuts as a favor, I’d be thrilled:)

kbam2016: If you have Krispy Kreme near you, they will make 2 donut boxes. I think you need to contact the local one near you for pricing.
