What you can afford? I think the budget books I have all say between 5 and 10 percent of the budget. That being said, I am planning on spending 4% and my godsister spent 15%, so to each his own.

There are beautiful dresses from $100 to over $10k. You have to decide what you can afford and look within that price range

Whatever you can afford or are comfortable spending! Of course, you’ll also want to keep alterations and accessories in mind too when setting your final budget – those can get extremely pricey depending on your gown and situation.

the way I decided was to write out all the wedding elements and pick my top 3 where I would want to spend as much as I could afford and where I was willing to make concessions. In the end I am probably going to spend 1k on the dress (10percent of the budget) 15 percent on photos (i love photos and thats all I will have left after the day is over) and 15percent on decorations (I really want a special look for the day I wont ever get another party like this) I am sacrificing the cake (going with a very enexpensive design florals for decorations and possibly even having a grocery bakery bake it) food (we are just a cake and punch wedding) alcohol (none at all) and some others. Really just find out what is most important to you and decide what you are willing to spend in each area.
