Hello fellow bees,
I have a dilemma I need your help with. I’m a plus size bride and I have a very tiny budget for a dress (about 200$). My original plan was to get a cheap but well constructed dress (no lace, no beading, very basic design) on sale at a bridal salon or maybe a second hand dress and add decorations to it myself to make it my own. But now the situation changed – my lovely Future Mother-In-Law who happened to be an experienced seamstress had offered to make a dress for me, so I don’t have to settle for a generic dress anymore.
We are having a asian fusion themed wedding and from the very beginning I knew that I wanted to add Japanese design elements in my dress. I found a few wonderful designers who make gorgeous dresses integrating elements of kimono in their gowns (see below). I will also use a vintage traditional wedding kimono as a source of fabric for a dress (the first and second dresses on the collage are made out of vintage kimonos) they have wonderful patterns -white on white- cranes, flowers, fans, waves, etc… I will also have a mostly black sash with bow on the back made out of vintage obi, it has magnificent gold/silver/reddish-orange embroidery on it. Basically I’m trying to achieve a look of the first dress on the collage, only with a mostly black sash instead of colorful.
Now, here comes the problem. Like I said, I’m a plus sized and I absolutely hate my upper arms so I can’t wear a strapless dress like the ones on the pic. I was looking around for ideas for the sleeves of any alternative solutions (bolero and such) and I found some designs I like very much, but I’m not sure if they would work with the rest of the dress because the fabric of the dress has woven tapestry-like texture with patterns all over it (see the pic above). So here are the design solutions I’ve found:
Option#1 – off the shoulder, 3/4 sleeve, lace
Option#2 – v-neck, 3/4 sleeve, lace (my absolute favorite design is the large one in the middle, I LOVE that lace and everything else about it)
Option#3 – long sleeves (I really like these dresses too)
Options#4 – lace bolero, 3/4 sleeves
I like the v-neck design with lace the most, I also think it would be most flattering, as I have a large bust but not much of the shoulders, so I’m not sure if the off the shoulder design would be flattering. So, what do you guys think – which design could be used with the kimono dress of my dreams? Or none of them can? Any input/criticism/ideas will be greatly appreciated!
