I had mine taken in at the hips and the straps tightened, hemmed  and bustle and it was $500 🤦🏻‍♀️

I had trim added to the bottom, bustle, and taken in some at the waist.  I paid $320 for all that in the greater Los Angeles area (at a non-bridal store seamstress – she did a great job for much cheaper!), and I had it done about 6 weeks out I think (I had to get in ahead of prom season but I was glad I was all ready a little early!)

Mine needs to be taken in at the hips and waist, hemmed, cups added and a bustle, and it’s about $650. I thought that was pretty high, but my dress has about 4-5 layers, so I guess it’s reasonable.

My wedding is October 7th and I had my first alterations appointment this past Friday.

My dress alterations were to add a bustle, add straps, and shorten the hem. It cost $376. My wedding is October 14th, I went for my appointment the Saturday before last, and my first fitting post alterations is next Friday.

I think two months out is plenty, and be prepared for the cost, because it was more than I was expecting. Thankfully, I saw someone post that their alterations cost $450 a few weeks before I scheduled my alterations appointment, so I better knew what to expect and planned around some things to be sure I had the funds.

Just be vocal about what you want. The seamstress wanted to take in my dress, but I didn’t want to pay for more than what was absolutely necessary, and I also want room just in case I all the sudden gain a bunch of weight before the wedding. (Here’s to hoping that doesn’t happen!) So, I had to say it a few times, but they’re only doing the three things I mentioned above and they’re going to leave the bodice as is.

stillnothing :  My lace dress was $400 total for alterations. 3 point bussle, hem , cups, and pinned top to bottom. Also included taking out lining in train so all you will see is lace. Thats at first fitting, go back for m2nd in three weeks 🙂

So this thread makes me feel better, my friends thought my alterations were crazy.

I have to take five inches off of the hem, one inch taken in on either side of the top, as well as a bustle. There are a lot of layers of fabric and the pinning took almost two hours and the cost was $500.

I thought it made sense because of all of the work that had to be done.

My wedding is 9/23 and I had my first alterations appointment on 7/6, my second appointment on 8/11 and have my last appointment on 9/9. I had to get my dress hemmed, a bustle put in, taken in at the chest and cups sewn in. Price is $320.

First fitting was 2 months before we leave for wedding.  I got alteration quotes for every dress I was considering.  Most quotes ranged from 300 to 450.  The dress I picked had an alterations quote of $125.  The price was so low because the salon owners mother does the alterations as a retirement hobby.

My wedding is October 21st.  I had my first fitting a week ago, and my second will be on Sept 17.

I needed a hem, bustle, the bust taken in, bust cups added and a belt sewn in.  So far, mine are costing $780.  I have a ball gown that has 8 layers, so that is what is adding to the price.
