Has anyone had dress alterations costing very near or way over the original price of the dress you purchased?
I’m in a dilemma, I bought my dress at a sample sale and the dress alterations that I want to make are over the price I paid for my dress. They said that the things I wanted done will take up a lot of time. I guess I just want to ask if anyone has had this situation and what did you do, did you go for it, or did you sacrifice some of the more not-essential alterations?

My dress was $250. David’s Bridal wanted over $300 for alterations and I wanted to laugh at them. Took my dress to a local seamstress and she did everything for $65 (hem, take in the sides, add bustle)

Not me but a friend had a similar experience at Davids Bridal as well. I would shop around and find another seamstress.

I have a dress from Alfred Angelo and the alterations quotes I have gotten have ranged from $500-$700 which is almost half of what I paid for the dress itself. When I bought my dress they told me to budget alterations to cost like 1/3rd of the retail value of the dress to be safe. I’m not happy about it either :/
