Hi Bees.
I have been crying since yesterday afternoon when I went in for my “final” (only) dress fitting.
When I purchased this dress, I was told it would fit my body like a glove once altered. I am very petite and I have dreamed of a dress that would hug my booty and show off my frame. The sales lady said it would be absolutely possible to bring it in on my booty and make sure it was snug elsewhere.
When I got the dress in and I met with the seamstress, she told me that would be no problem. She also told me she was taking the back down 2 inches (this is what we agreed on). I told her I knew I couldn’t have a low-back dress since it is strapless and it wouldn’t hold up well. But 2 inches into more of a V rather than straight across was seemingly doable. Also cups were to be sewn in because itty bitty committee.
Yesterday when I picked up my dress, she had taken more than 2 inches, and my whole back and sides of rib cage are showing.
It gives me back cleavage but she says it won’t stay up if we let it out at all.
It makes me feel boxy/frumpy, doesn’t fit my body the way I was lead to believe it would.
No cups were sewn in, so she sewed them in quickly. Now there is just extra stuff in the ill-fitting bust area.
The dress doesn’t stay up in front and has a solid inch gap between my boobs and the dress. She says it’s because the back is gone and it’s strapless, so there is no material in the back to hold it up against my chest. I realize this, but I didn’t want this. She said I’ll need to get some heavy duty tape and keep it taped onto myself all day and night long. For the amount of money I paid and for not having big boobs I didn’t think I would have to worry about taping my dress on.
The back seams where she took it in on the butt are quite obvious – maybe this is normal?? I thought it would just look like the dress was made to fit my booty better. I didn’t know it would be so obvious or that the pattern of the lace would look all wonky. The front seems to have extra fabric and I asked her to make it a bit more fitted and she said she can’t.
I guess what I am asking from you all, is:
A) Am I being crazy? Are these things all fine? SHould I have to tape my $2000 dress to my body the day of the wedding? I’m so petite and I work hard at the gym, I wanted it to fit like a glove, yet it just feel a bit frumpy in it.
B) Are the seams on the butt normal?
C) Is there any form of alterations that could be done (by a different person) that would help the boob area fit up against me?
D) Any other suggestions!? My boss suggested maybe someone could take some lace and put it in the back there, re-do the zipper, etc. so I have more fabric back there to support the gows. Ya’ll, I don’t even know how to sew a button on to something, so I am clueless.
I might be looking for a dress off the rack. My wedding is January 7. Sigh.
The first photo shows “after” on the left, “before” on the right (I don’t have a pic of it zipped up all the way, it was suuuper tight and painful). You can see where the original line of the back of the dress was. It’s more than a simple 2 inch V cut. It’s a huge scoop.
Thanks so much for any insight!
