You still look amazing. Your back looks great. There isn’t a photo of the front to see the gap, and while no, you shouldn’t have to tape your dress, if thats the only way, it’s the only way.

That being said, I would not pay her. Those seams do look bad, and she didn’t do what you asked. If you were pissed enough, I might almost go after her for the cost of the dress. You cannot re-alter it. If you buy a new dress, you’re out $$$. That is not fair to you. You shouldn’t suffer because she did her own thing.

stevielee :  I know nothing about dress alterations, but I can definitely see why you are upset! I don’t think the seams on your booty are very noticeable unless looking for them close up, but they don’t look like something that a professional seamstress did, in my opinion. Its almost as if she didn’t cut the material any, but just folded it over and tacked it?

As far as the back, I do think that is WAY more than a 2 inch difference, but I don’t think it looks bad. You have a very petite frame and I think your back looks great. It looks more like a U shape than a V shape cut that she made to me, though. (again, I know nothing about alterations so I’m probably wrong on that, ha)

I can’t really tell what you are talking about with your chest. I don’t see the gap – but the picture isn’t that close up so that could be why I don’t notice anything.

If you’re unhappy with the results, I would find another seamstress and ask their thoughts and see if they can do anything fix the areas you are concerned about. It’s the one day in your life that you need to feel like your dress is perfect. I wouldn’t settle. If your seamstress cannot fix any of the concerns, I would even consider asking about a partial (or full) refund.

stevielee :  I don’t see the back “fat” (i.e. you don’t have any) :).  However, I can see the seams in the back below your booty.  I would highly recommend a second opinion and you should NOT have to pay her the full amount for the alterations.  These can hopefully be fixed!

I also did a similar alteration to my dress where I took the back to a lower V and it turned out great.  They had to make the dress a tad tighter in the bust for it to stay against my body rather than having to tape it.  I also remember her making the fabric near my breasts kind come back in on itself to form toward my body.  This definitly helped hold me in and I completely danced the night away with no problem whatsoever.

Maybe a second opinion from another reputable seamstress would help; however, overall you look gorgeous and this dress really flatters how hard you work in the gym 🙂 I can provide close up pics of my alterations if you would like.

Best of luck!

You look beautiful and your dress is stunning. Is the seamstress affiliated with the store where you purchased the dress? If so, I’d call and ask to meet with the store manager. I’d take the dress in with my most assertive friend or family member- and, I’d ask them how they plan to remedy this.

From what you’ve explained, she took the back down far more than you intended- and now it doesn’t fit properly. And, while you look great and it is a stunning dress, those seams do not look professionally altered at all. Decide in advance what you would like- and, that may depend upon how close your wedding date is. 1. Does this warrant a replacment gown?, 2. Do they have a competent seamstress there who can suggest ways to fix the dress that will make you happy?, etc.

For what it is worth, while I think the seams do not look professional, no one will notice that when you are wearing the gown. The dress is very flattering on you- you look stunning. But, the dress needs to stay up. They need to fix this for you!

stevielee :  Just popping in to say you look stunning in that dress.  From the full-length pictures, I wouldn’t have noticed anything strange or wrong with the back or seams.  On your close-ups, I can see that the back is definitely lower than you asked for, but it looks amazing.

The seams…wouldnt have noticed them if you hadn’t pointed it out.  I can see why it would bother you and I think it can be fixed/minimized.  Just keep in mind that if you’re not pointing these things out to people, I really doubt they’d notice.  You look amazing!

clementsbee :  above me!

First of all you look amazing regardless of the issues you’ve mentioned.

The biggest issue I noticed are the seams on the back of the dress under your butt, it absolutely should not look like that. It should be completely seamless and look like it wasn’t even altered.

The bust area I can’t tell what’s wrong with it because it’s not a close up pic but I agree with OP above me when she said that the seamstress could take in the bust, which is what mine did after sewing in the cups, she kind of bunched up the lace under my boobs to have the bust molded more to my chest so that it stays up… I also had a lot of boning already in the Dress so when she did that it was completely fine and there was no gap…I hope that makes sense!

I think you should try to take the dress to another seamstress to see if she can fix the bust issue and the seams on the back of the dress. I would not let that woman touch it again. Good luck Bee! Try not to worry too much it is absolutely not as bad as you think it is!

stevielee :  I don’t know much about alterations, so I can’t help on that, but I wanted to say you look absolutely gorgeous in your dress. Like some of the PP said, I wouldn’t even notice the seams or anything if they were not pointed out.

I definitely don’t see any back fat and you definitely don’t look frumpy, you look great.  As for the seams, it looks like it had just been pinned and nothing actually cut out or sewn, as for the placement of them I think it is fine if they were cleaner and flatter (trust me, that kind of alteration is no easy thing).  You have time so I would go find another seamstress, but definitely tell the first one you are not happy with the work and you should be partially refunded/discounted on the cost of the alterations

stevielee :  Ugh how stressful! You do look gorgeous though! My dress has an illusion back, could you do something like this to make the bust area fit better?
