Two part question –
1. I just got a call from the bridal shop I ordered my dress from telling me that my dress won’t come in until the beginning of November – I’m getting married December 20th. Is this enough time for all three fittings I’m supposed to have?
2. Would bees who have already had alterations suggest going with the bridal shop for them or looking for an independent seamstress to do them? Obviously I’m concerned about price, but also timing…

@chrissyb464: Are you looking at major alterations or just the normal possibly having to bring in some on the sides and hem and bustle? If you are not drastically changing the dress they shouldnt need that long to do the alterations. I only went in for 2. The first one was to size and figure out the bustle, i think that was one month before. The second was to make sure it was all ok, roughly a week and a half before. Then I picked up my dress 3 days before the wedding. My dress had a crazy amount of beading everywhere too so it wasnt a simple job. I got my alterations done at the bridal shop I purchased from, I did call around for pricing but they were all roughly the same price.

@Leonard2B: Thanks! My dress is pretty detailed as well, so that’s good to know.

I’m getting married on 11/16 and my first fitting is on 10/12. I’m supposed to have 3 or 4 fittings. I’m not worried. I figure these people know what they’re doing.

I think you are fine. My shop (and many of my friends) said it’s common to start fittings about a month before. They don’t want to start too early because you might lose or gain weight. I think you will be just fine.
