Okay so I am absolutely in love with the Allure 8407 dress and I have found a used one in a size 10…problem is I need to to be a size 4..possibly even a little bit smaller. Has anyone had a dress with that much beading detail and such have to be taken in that much? Is it even possible, I don’t want to buy the dress if it won’t look right once it has been taken in.

I was told by the seamstress that some dresses can only be altered two sizes down due to construction. I would take a photo of the dress to the alterations person that you plan to use and talk to them about it. They will know best if it can be done.

I think tksjewelry has it spot on — talk to a seamstress first. My dress needed to be an 8 for bust/hips, but a 12 for the waist. So they ordered the 12 and said there’s no problem making the rest of it smaller.

Yea I plan on going to a seamstress to find out a coworker recommended a good one close to here I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem and what their outcome was.

Just a warning too – the more they have to take and reconstruct the more expensive it will be – I found my dream dress on an incredible sale but it was a size too big and I lost a size. My alterations are actually more than the cost of the dress but it was worth it to me because I still saved $1000+ from having it custom ordered. So check to see what it will cost to have it taken in to make sure it justifies the savings. There is a lot of beading on that dress and it might be more expensive than you think.

Yea I know alterations aren’t going to be cheap but I don’t imagine they will be more than the $700 that I am saving on the dress, at least I certainly hope not. I will get a quote first, if it is more than $500 then I am probably better off just buying the dress from the salon, the sample is already in my size. How much did your alterations cost to have it taken in 2 sizes?

As an ex bridal consultant, it could probably done if you wanted to spend a lot of money, although I wouldn’t quite think that it would cost over 700 dollars. The bigger problems are more about the structure of the dress… where the designs are meant to fall on your body and how the cups are going to fit you (they’re typically much too big). You really need a professional opinion though!

Well I don’t think I will have a problem with the cups fitting at all generally they are too small compared to anything that fits the rest of my body, being a 32DDD I am going to have to have the top adjusted anyway but I will definitely have to ask about the designs still being in the right spot.

So the best seamstress in town says it can’t be done 🙁 Hoping I can find this dress in a smaller size for sale cheaper than $1,200. Anyone know any good places for dress sales….that aren’t knock offs?

@prettypincushion: Oh no, so sorry to hear that! Fortunately you have a bit of time to keep looking for a good deal on the dress!

Yea thank goodness I started so early, which was the original plan to have time to find a good sale, still disappointed though, but hopefully I will find it
