I ordered my dress 12-13-2013 from david’s bridal because I was told that it took between 5-7 months to came in. My wedding is Jan 2015 so i figured one less thing to worry about and if it is delayed that is ok I have time. The dress is part of the spring collection and i love it (see link below).

Here’s the problem it arrived at the store on the 27th of december! Luckily after talking to management they gave me two options.
1) Full refund on the dress for arriving too early and I can just buy it later.
2) They would keep it in the store until March and then I would have to pick up
I feel so conflicted and haven’t been able to make a decision, which is odd because I’m normally very decisive. My mother feels I should just return it buy it again at a later date. My Fiance feels I should just keep it since he already has his tux. I’m worried if I keep it it will either yellow, smell funny from being in a plastic garment bag or just somehow get damaged? Please bees I need help 🙁
Sorry for the derp face I was trying to hold back tears 😀

You look absolutely stunning in that dress! It makes me soooo excited! lol
IMO, just re-buy it at a later date. I would just hate for something to happen to it during that time its stored!
The most important reason for ME is that I like things to be brand new when I use them LOL im ocd that way 🙂

@DRwedding2015: Thanks miss! Since it’s the 2014 spring collection it should hopefully be around for a while.

@Anonette: I woudl be worried that the dress would be discontinued or there would be some sort of problem. I would have them hold it – I’m sure they’ll keep it in good condition. You could even ask them if they will guarantee to keep it like new.

@AlwaysSunny: Good point. I made an appointment with the supervisor this Monday. If they tell me that they can hold the dress for at least 6 months and guarantee it’s condition I might go that route.

@Anonette: I’m getting married a month-ish before you and my dress is only being held at the store until March 12th. I’m going to have to stash it at a friend’s house or cousin’s house to hide it from my Fiance, but other than worrying about his seeing it (and that my cousin’s dog may eat it…), I’m not really worried. You can always ask the store if they’ll clean it for you if anything happens?

@Anonette: I bought my dress a year and 2 months before my wedding. It was sitting in my closet the whole time. Didn’t yellow at all.

I used to work at Davids Bridal and a dress will never take longer than sixteen weeks to come in. They will always clean your dress for you (as long as no other alterations or cleaners have touched it), but it is only spot cleaning and a steaming.
They will store it in a plastic bag or the $10 garment bag if you purchased it. Personally, I wouldn’t feel comfortable with it being stored that long. I would personally do the refund and once or twice a month, give the store a call and check if the dress is still available to purchase. Styles stay for a long time. But I wouldn’t look any further that dress is beautiful.

@Anonette: the same thing happened to me! They didn’t give me those options though, I just had to come and get it and take it home. It’s now in one of their white garment bags in the back of my closet and I take it out every now and then to gaze at it.
I would just keep it – they told me mine arrived quickly because there was one available in the wearhouse and this doesn’t always happen. They did tell me that they don’t usually take the full amount of time to arrive but my case was unusual.
I wouldn’t risk returning it and not being able to get it in time!

I got my dress a year before the wedding and it was totally fine! I got it altered and pressed right before the wedding and it was perfect! I hadn’t considered why getting it early would be a bad thing!

I’m confused? Why would you get a refund and reorder the same dress later? If you’re storing it in a garmet bag, put a bounce dryer sheet in there with it (just at the bottom) and as long as you live in a smoke free home I don’t think there will be any issue.

My dress was held at a bridal salon for over a year before my wedding, it’s condition was perfect. It’s not enough time to yellow a dress, there’s not really any risk in my opinion.

I say keep it and place it in a cotton or breathable bag. Not in the plastic one it comes in. Mine is pre-loved and bought in 2009. My wedding is in 2 weeks and it hasn’t yellowed. She should be perfectly fine in one year IMO

I was in a similar situation with my dress coming in over a year and a half before my wedding (since I wanted to order it with my mom before I moved across the country with my SO). It ended up coming in sometime in February 2012, sat in the bridal salon until April 2012, and then was stored at my sister’s house in a cedar closet until I took it back to DC with me for alterations in July 2013. Even after all that time in a plastic bag, the dress didn’t yellow or start to smell funny.
