I am a plus sized bride (16-18 street size) and am trying to descide on a wedding gown. We are having a vintage/fall themed wedding the the distillery district down town Toronto next October. Please help me decide which dress looks the most flattering and on theme from David’s bridal. The Vera Wang and Dress #3 were both a size too large on me so they added some bulk.
Dress #1 Style 9T9642 (straps tucked in) Size 18
Dress #2 9WG3243 size 16
Dress #3 Style 9T3039 size 20
Dress # 4 (Vera Wang VW351011) size 18

I like dress number 1 & 4, they both look great on your figure. Maybe even add a sash, very pretty!

I think the rouching on #2 is the most flattering.
#3 is the most fun and goes the best with the veil 🙂

I think #2 and #4 are the most flattering. I really like the look of #4 with the little birdcage veil, very pretty and fits your theme.

If you go with 4 I’d definitely make it a sweetheart neckline. Much more flattering.

I like #4, for fit and theme. I agree with PP that a sweetheart neckline would look fab on that dress.

Thanks everyone! I am having a hard time narrowing it down. I really like #1, #2, and #4. I dont know if i am hung up on #4 because it is “unique” and it is vera wang or if it is because it is the best dress for me. I guess i am torn because i tend to lean toward unique items and i feel that the other options are a bit conventional, but sometimes conventional is the most flattering….What are the right motivations for picking a gown?

I love #2 on you, it’s so flattering! If you pick that one though I’d add a sash or something though. I also really like #4 but like PP said I’d definitely make it a sweetheart neckline. The sweetheart looks is fabulous on you!

I don’t know that there’s really any “right” or “wrong”. I guess picking something just because of the designers name is a bit silly.
I didn’t have a big wow moment with my dress. I thought it was very pretty and flattering and it fit the sort of feel I wanted with my wedding. I was comfortable in it, but still felt special.
Some people really want to make a statement though. They want their dress to be all about personality and wow and set the tone for the whole day.
1 and 2 are very pretty, but you’re right that they are more conventional. I’d say go on another shopping trip and try on some more unique stuff–a champagne, a lace, something with crazy beading, and see if anything really stands out. If not you can always make the dress sort of the palette for other things–awesome jewelry, veils, shoes, flowers, sashes, etc.
I don’t think the Vera Wang is really all that unique. I think there are probably other dresses in that silhouette that would be a lot more flattering to you.

Thank you for your advice. It’s not so much that i am lable obessed or anything i just feel like it is a special dress because it is vera wang and i would never be able to afford a normal vera wang, if that makes any sense?
I agree also that it isnt super unique as far as bridal gowns go, but i am having a really hard time trying on “unique” plus sized gowns. Most of them dont fit my personal style. I am not a beading/crystal type of girl and i find a lot of bridal gowns have tons of that on them.If you have any suggestions on plus sized lines that have that “wow” factor i would love to hear any suggestions.
I know i am just rambling on about it. I think i am going to have to go back and try them on again and see which one makes me feel better.
Thanks for your help 🙂

i love #2! it gives you a tiny waist, then flows out into a gorgeous line that flows over your hips… i think you look the smallest in it, and i think it’s not completely conventional like you think it is… it wears and sits on you very well! 🙂 you can spice it up with a fun sash, if you wanted!
