Why is it taking over a year for your dress to be made? That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me…

That seems really really long. They probably scheduled it because of your date. I would ask to move it up and if they resist tell them you need to reschedule your wedding earlier and see what they say then

@lefeymw:  I second this idea!

I’m such a sneaky bride!

I bet they are just holding the production of the dress because they are aware that your wedding is in 2012. My wedding is also in 2012 and my dress will  be here by July. I would insist that they get it to you sooner. What if the alterations you are having done to it don’t work out?

That’s a really long time! I would definitely want it sooner that two months before the wedding.

Wow, that is a long time.  I would definitely request that they move the date up a bit.  I’d rather have it early than get it at the last minute and not be  able to have the proper alterations done or have the risk of something going wrong….  early is definitely better in this case!

I think a Vera Wang gown is special, but that is ridiculous.  For Pete’s sake, Kate Middleton’s dress isn’t going to take that long and she is going to be the Queen of england:)

Waaaaay too long. Definitely ridiculous. You need to get on their case asap.

I ordered my dress in Jan 2011 and my wedding is July 2012 – they still said they’d have my dress by July 2011 and then store it for me.

I’m with the pretending your wedding is earlier deal.

Woahhh!  That’s really abnormal.  The longest a dress should come in is 9 months.  1 year should be the absolute max!

In my opinion, it does sound like they’re waiting for it to come closer to the wedding.  It’s probably better in that sense because your body size may fluctuate in more then a year for sure.  Plus, you don’t want to hold onto your dress at your home.  It’s actually better to leave it in the store to prevent getting the bottom of the dress dirty.  Also, the longer you leave it out in the air, the more of a chance it’ll turn that yellowish color if you don’t perserve it.

But you should definitely clairfy why it’s going to take so long.

it’s actually not abnormal for higher end dresses. my dress is a vera as well, they can do most of the dresses in 6-8 mos but they would really prefer a year, and then a minimum of 3 months for alterations. i ordered my dress 6/24/11 and it is set to arrive 5/5/12 for a 9/8/12 wedding. it’s the fact that each dress is producer custom per order, they just aren’t sitting in warehouse somewhere waiting to get shipped.

Sounds complicated! Is there a pic we can see?
