Ok so I am not second guessing my dress choice. However I went for my first fitting and have a concern about the undergarment I’m supposed to wear. It’s a hoop skirt that will give my dress the desired shape, it works perfect since the dress is quite heavy. I am concerned that I will not want to have this hoop skirt on the whole day. When I sit down it pushed the dresses out really wide and I don’t feel comfortable with that.
Has anyone had experience with a hoop skirt? Did it hinder your movement or make you feel uncomfortable?
I’m also concerned about how it will look in pictures, meaning I won’t be able to sit or lay on a couch or have as much freedom with where/how we pose.
Any advice?? Thanks!!

@WeddingBells33: I went to a wedding in August where the bride wore a hoop and it gave the dress a lovely shape. She said that she didn’t think anything of it when moving around for photographs and she was positioned beuatifully for the ones taken when sitting down. She didn’t think it was too much of a bother to remove it (which she did and then put it back 20 minutes later). Her wedding photos are gorgeous and the hoop didn’t make a huge difference. Obviously bees who have worn hoops will have better advice/experience than me! 🙂

I wear hoops for historical re-enactments and concerts all the time and they really aren’t as restricting as you’d think. They just take practice and a little help to get on and off. If you want the lying down shots, they can be done, but they take some finess to get right and you can’t move quickly, so again, it’s all about practicing! See if you can get a hold of a hoop before you make your decision so you can play with it.

Thanks skyeatnight….. I really need the encouragement and am definitley looking to remove the hoop skirt at some point so I can pose for some of our pictures.
@Dragonsus I will ask to bring home the hoop skirt next time I go for my fitting so I can practice like you said.
Any other married bees that wore a hoop skirt have advice?

Hi there – I wore a three tiered hoop (similar to the one below) under my gown and it was just fine!! It didn’t hinder my movement at all. I danced the night away! However, being seated at dinner was a tad challenging b/c I needed a little extra space for my gown. The hoop actually helped to keep me cool in mid-summer b/c the satin on my gown couldn’t touch my legs, etc. Hope this helps!
