I got engaged in March. Getting married next October. Everyone has been talking about how I should be excited about trying on dresses. I have been dreading it. I am a street size 22, and have body issue galore. But, I finally decided it’s time, so I went to try on dresses for the first time the other day. Found a smaller store and called to make sure they had dresses that would somewhat fit. I have to say…. I have a crush on the Maggie “Miranda”. The minute I put it on, I instantly feel in love and glowed. No other dress that I tried on gave me that feeling. I’m still looking…want to try on a few other gowns what that kind of look before I say yes, but I wanted to say that if you are full-figured and are worried about trying on dresses, find a small store with sample sizes in your size. They are out there. Having the right size and a consultant that is as excited for you to try on a gown as you are makes all the difference

I agree! I had decent experiences, although I will say at the store that didn’t have as many larger samples, they’d try to squeeze me into the smaller sizes and that was just miserable and uncomfortable. Don’t let them do that to you! I finally told them “I don’t want to try on anything that won’t at least go over my hips.”
I actually had a really good experience at David’s Bridal (weekday, I was the only one there). They had a wide range of sample sizes and were very plus-size friendly. I went to two different ones and at one she measured me to pick out undergarments, at the other she just asked me size. I’d say have them measure you – everything runs so differently it’s better not to underestimate your size and then be frustrated.
I guess that would be my tip for any plus-size gals worried. It MAY be worth it to bring your own long-line bra to try on dresses with that you know fits. That was actually one of the more frustrating parts of the visits for me.

I love maggie dresses! I’m a street size 20 so i know how your feeling with body image. I’m trying to lose the weight but it is so hard to do! I’m still searching for the dress, but i have not found it yet. I may end up having one custom made! I have found ruching really helps make me look thinner and feel better about myself

I think you are right, I went to David’s Bridal at first and unfortunately did not have a good experience. The store was a madhouse that particular day and my consultant was rushed for time. I ended up going to a small bridal salon that specialized in plus-sizes and got excellent customer service. If you can go to a smaller salon, try it. I didn’t try on any Maggie Sottero (they are awesome) but I ended up buying a killer Pronovias, and I’m very happy with my dress.
