Hello fellow bees
Sooo… Our wedding is in June next year (early Winter here in SA).
We are having a formal, slightly vintage affair (read – lots of lace) and our colours are maroon, silver and dusty (almost brown) pink.
My hair will be half up with a birdcage veil.
I have a dress maker to make the chosen dress as there are no stockists of either of these dresses here, and it’s also much more cost effective.
I initially chose the Sassi Holford one, but I discovered the Jim Hjelm one earlier and can’t help but think that I should change my mind… I still have time, as we’ll only start making it in Jan.
Whichever dress I go with, I’ll have a sash similar to this one, but more brown:
Without further ado, here are the dresses:

They are very similar. If you’re having a dressmaker create it custom, why not choose your favorite aspects from each?

That’s a great idea!
I see lots of difference though LOL.
The Sassie Holford one is made of Guipure lace, and it’s proving difficult for us to find that lace here – all the decent ones are insanely expensive, and the ones that aren’t look too… I don’t know… hard. Like commercial almost.
The Jim Hjelm one is made of Alencon, which is considerably more common so we have a better chance of finding one with a similar pattern.
I also don’t know which neckline would suit me better… Sigh. I hate choosing.

I like the lace on the Jim Hjelm dress better personally- but both designs are gorgeous! Can you try on dresses with similar necklines to get an idea?

Thanks for the input
I think I agree with the lace aspect – it’s softer and more detailed.
I’m going to try and get to a couple of boutiques with the hope that they may have dresses with similar necklines. I’m not holding out any hopes though – none of the dresses here even have sleeves, so it’s gonna be difficult. Hopefully I’ll find the necklines, even if they have short sleeves I’ll hopefully be able to get an idea.

I like the first one better but without the keyhole back 🙂

@Jacqui90: Hmmm the key hole back… I’m in two minds about it. On the one hand it’s going to be cold – but then again they have heaters, fireplaces, etc. at our venue. And the rest of the dress is pretty modest so that bit of skin is quite sexy. On the other hand, I wonder if I shouldn’t close it up with pretty buttons down the back, and keep the vintage theme a bit more.

@tamrynj: I’ve just never been a fan of keyhole backs, but that’s just personal taste 🙂
ETA: I think buttons would look fantastic 🙂

@Jacqui90: Awesome LOL thanks 🙂

OMG, they are both amazing – I couldn’t choose. The issue for me would be chest-size – I have a big-ish chest and if I wore the Sassi one it would make my chest look even bigger. A V-shape like the Jim Hjelm is more flattering on me (although I probably wouldn’t wear it quite so low). These are fabulous dresses, so stunning!!

I LOVE the 2nd one..it has more of a vintage feel to me.

Oh my….love love love the first one….It’s just screams sexy vintage elegance!! The first one hands down gets my vote!

The Jim hjelm lace is much prettier!

Wow thanks to everyone for your votes and input!
It looks like the Jim Hjelm is a clear winner – and to be honest I think I did this post to support my changing my mind
It really is the type of dress I’ve always seen myself wearing, but couldn’t visualise it exactly. I was in love with Maggie’s Bernadette, but I wasn’t sure how it would look with long sleeves, and more of an A-line that a mermaid. Now I know, and I couldn’t be happier! Now I see it in “real life” I just have that… feeling. Definitely not settling! Feel like it’s the one.
Now the only decisions left to make are about whether to keep the keyhole back or close it up…
And whether to make the sleeves full length or 3/4.
Yay I’m relieved

@Irish_in_Oxford: This is such a valid point – I’m also not small on top (full C), and am short, so the Queen Ann neckline on the Jim Hjelm will probably be much more flattering than the Sassi’s neckline. And maybe make me look taller hahaha
