Hi Hive!
So here’s the story: Since 2 of my bridesmaids are preggers, we put off ordering dresses as long as possible so that they could better guage what size they would need. We knew we were cutting it close, but the shop assured us that the dresses would be delivered 3-4 weeks before the wedding. Well…the wedding is in 3.5 weeks and I hadn’t heard from the shop, so I gave them a call today to see about the dresses.
The good news is that the dresses were delivered to the shop yesterday. The bad news is that one of the dresses is the WRONG COLOR. (They received 5 green dresses and 1 black dress…go figure.) The shop is scrambling to fix things, and I’m hopeful that they will be able to get the right dress in time, but for my peace of mind I need a plan B.
I have 2 MOHs and 4 Bridesmaids. One of the MOHs got the black dress. If the shop isn’t able to get her a green dress in time, do you think it would look weird if I had all of the bridesmaids in green, and the 2 MOHs in black? (Our colors are emerald green, gold, and ivory.) Does anyone have any other ideas for what we could do? Like I said, I’m hoping the shop can get the correct dress in time, but I will definitely sleep better if I have a back-up plan!

um, what did the shop suggest? Will they let you return all of the dresses? If you can return them, you can start looking for an off the rack (or internet) dress that will match your plan and fit everyone with minimal to no alterations. I would not be happy to have one Maid/Matron of Honor in black since it is not part of your color scheme. I would also not be happy that I had to call the shop to find out this news and would really lean on them to make this right and take the stress away from you. Can they call around to other shops to see if some one stocks the dress in the right size and you could buy the sample? Can you find the green dress online and get hte shop to buy it for you or reimburse the cost of the first dress if it was more expensive? Good luck!

@slicey16: Thanks for all of those suggestions. The shop keeps saying they think they will be able to get the dress in time, but given their track record, I’m not 100% convinced. The missing dress is a maternity size, so finding it as a sample in the right color/size combination is not likely. I will start looking for off the rack dresses to see what I can find…just in case.
I’m seriously bummed. I gave the girls a few basic guidelines (material, designer, color, and fabric) and let them choose their own individual dresses. They were really excited about their dresses, and I was excited to see how the effect would look in pictures. I’d hate for all that to go out the window b/c of somebody’s mistake! (The shop said they ordered the correct dress, but it was a mistake on the manufacturer’s part. They said the black dress even had a tag on it that said, "Emerald Green."

Hopefully they can overnight it. Did you ask the shop what they will do for you if they can’t get them in time?
If not, half black half green isn’t bad. Do black dresses with green sashes and green dresses with black sashes. Well, kinda half black/green. If you can get both MOH’s in black I think you’re safe. Even pregnant, a sash isn’t a bad way to go. My Future Sister-In-Law is in a black dress (standing on my FI’s side) and my mom made her a champagne sash–the same one my bridesmaids have. We joke that it’s like her baby’s a gift now.
Maybe they can order it in from a different shop or whatnot, too. I’d be calling them everyday for a status check if i were you!
