I’m planning my first trip to a local tailor soon, so this is probably the first of many posts deciding exactly what I want him to do!
I’m getting a dress made locally as there are no bridal shops here. I’ve already bought the fabric. I’ve got beautiful lace/beaded fabric for the top, with silk to go underneath. For the skirt I’ve got either organza or crepe georgette; still deciding which I want to use. I’m going to get the top and skirt made separately, as my current plan (which may change) is that then when we have a celebration on my country next year I’ll wear the same top but a simpler skirt that I can ceilidh dance in!
Anyway, I know what type of straps I want, the ones in dress 1, but I don’t know what neckline I want. How do I decide? I don’t want anything low cut. I don’t think a V would work with these straps. But would straight across work like dress 2? Or is a sweetheart better as in dress 1? Or another suggestion?

Personally, I believe that you can’t go wrong with a sweetheart neckline no matter what.

I am SO OVER sweetheart necklines. I love the straps on dress #1, and they are so pretty that they almost lighten the Sweetheart Curse.
Previous poster is 100% entitled to her opinion, by the way. I’m just SO tired of seeing sweethearts at EVERY WEDDING.

I second the straight across too, if you are set on exactly those straps. Otherwise I’d suggest a wide bateau neckline with the straps a bit further off the shoulders.

this is my problem too, I’m over sweethearts but love the straps!
I do like your first pic and also considered something like that, but I also love the back of the above straps and it wouldn’t work with off the shoulder straps. But maybe i’ll just see what the tailor thinks between something my straps and off te shoulder ones.
