Great to read about all you pre-planning mavens! Our destination wedding is going to be on the beach, at sunset (cliche I know) and I’m having a huge dress debate… It’s the second wedding for both of us, I’m a widow, he’s divorced. It will be a kid-free event attended by our close friends and adult family members. We will not have "attendants" as my first wedding was an elaborate affair with 325 guests; (been there-done that.) We are opting for simple, and relaxed, but not too casual. Here’s the challenge… what to wear. I picture a flowy chiffon/organza something full length strapless or halter appropriate for the setting, perhaps in aqua/tiffany blue to compliment the tropical venue, my eyes etc. My friends think I should go for a "wedding" dress, white or pearl or similar… my fiance thinks simple sundress=DONE, he doesn’t want it to get carried away…
What are your thougths??

I would say do what feels most comforable for you! Try on several different styles of dresses to see what feels right for the event that you are planning. If you want to play with color, give it a try. It could be as simple as the accessories as well. Have fun with it and enjoy the planning process!

I think you should do what you want since it’s your wedding! That being said, I love the idea of encore brides wearing color. I think an aqua dress would be lovely. And it would kind of go with your FI’s idea of a simple sundress. I’m loving maxi dresses these days and I’m sure you could find one in that color.
I know this isn’t the right color and I have no idea what your price range is, but I think this is gorgeous:
This is white/shiny but kinda tropical-ish:
Not sure if any of it helps, but whatever you choose you’re sure to look amazing.

I’m selling my gorgeous Kay Unger wedding gown, worn for my Aug. 08 beach wedding and fresh from the dry cleaners. I bought it in April at Neiman Marcus for $1000. The top is raw silk and the skirt is a linen blend. It is a size 2 and is unaltered. I usually wear a 2 in dresses so I think (unlike many typical bridal gowns) it fits true to size. It has a very low neckline, I ended up going braless (the dress has built in soft cups) and using a little fashion tape. This dress is comfy, modern, sexy, and elegant all at once- just what every bride wants! Please email me if you’d like more pictures or measurements. I’m asking $600.

I love the acqua idea…it’s really up to you. But even if you go colored and your wedding is more casual, you probably do want to stand out as the bride. But I dont think that means wearing white, just maybe a fancier hair style or something? And maybe you can add a white accent (like wrap for the party afterward) and white flowers? I don’t know where you’ll be, but the idea of acqua with white lillies just sounds lovely!

J.Crew has wedding dresses which are a bit more casual and modern, but still has a bridal feel.

Thanks all… I’ll keep you posted!
FAQ219… the color of your top on your pic is similar to what I’m after, I just can’t get over the way I felt and looked (Fabulous) in a Maggie Sottero French Taffeta corseted beauty…

This dress comes in a beautiful aqua color called spring and it’s made of chiffon. It looks perfect for a beach wedding. With a white boquet and maybe a white flower in your hair that would be beautiful!

I would say that you should do what you feel comfortable with. If you don’t want to wear your typical ‘white’ or ‘ivory’ another beautiful color you could wear would be a light pink or light yellow. Those would be very beachy but yet bridal at the same time to still make you feel like a bride!
