(I posted this dress for sale in Classifieds but am using part of the text here because I need to vent and need support)
Here’s the deal – my seamstress began a custom alteration on it for me – she removed the sleeves to eliminate the keyhole (which involved taking out about 8 stiches – no big deal and can be easily put back on), making it strapless. She then took it in from its size 4 to a size 2; in doing so, she had to remove the lace from the dress by undoing the stitching by hand so that she could cut the lace to size and re-stitch it (this is the normal process for a lace alteration – the alterations are made from the inside, out so this is the final part of the process.
She removed a small amount of lace from the top of the dress (neckline and underarm area) but never cut it down to size because that’s when she STOPPED WORKING ON MY DRESS AND REFUSED TO FINISH! Yep – that’s right. Instead of finishing my dress for my Aug 29th destination wedding, she decided to go on VACATION and left my dress in a BAG WITH A NOTE ON IT, saying she was sorry but perhaps I could get someone else to finish it!!
I tried not to have a psychotic break and was determined to make it work. Then I got home and tried it on (I’m a size 2-4 but my back is a bit broader than most girls my size about a 34.5) only to discover that she altered it to a 32 – 33 and now it doesn’t fit!!
Needless to say, I have a mess on my hands but no time to deal with it because I leave the country in two weeks from today for my wedding. And now I need to find dress #3 – yep, I was a two dress bride until this disaster because I decided against wearing my non-traditional 1st dress and went all over the state of NJ in search of an off the rack 2nd dress (this dress). I don’t even know where to begin finding #3. I need help. And some wine.
If you have time and a seamstress, the dress could be put back to its original state and be beautiful. I paid $599 for the dress but like I said, I would be happy to re-coup $300.00.
I can email pictures of the alteration issues if you’re interested.
