I bought my dress knowing that it was at least a size too big and I would have to get it altered. I found a tailor and had it taken in right away. After the first fitting, it was still a little loose, so I asked her to take it in a little more. On my second fitting, it seemed pretty good, but I wasn’t completely confident. However, I paid and took the dress home. My FH asked how everything went, and I said “ok.” He knew something was wrong because I had been so excited about the dress after the first fitting. I just felt a little off about it, thinking that it might not fit perfectly. But, it’s hard to tell whether a little breathing room would be nice or whether a tight fit would look better.
After trying it on again, I know it’s looser than I want. There is about an inch of give in the waist area. It’s not falling off or anything, but it just doesn’t show off my figure. Now I don’t know what to do. I already paid $225 to have it altered, and I can’t really afford to pay more. I’m leaving for my destination wedding in 4 days, and the wedding will be in 10 days. Should I go back to the same tailor who would only have 3 days to do it. Should I pay for a rush job somewhere else? Should I just forget about it since most people probably won’t notice anyway?

@star_fish: Same tailor and hurry!

I’m confused…why did you take it home? Call the seamstress and see if they can fix it in a hurry.

I would go with the same tailor, she might not charge you extra to rush it.

@star_fish: Yes call her ASAP! Make sure it fits the way you want it too but just make sure you can still sit in it! Do a sit test 🙂

Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Do not walk, RUN. Go to the seamstress and ask her to take it in ASAP. Hopefully she won’t charge you any more!
Then post pix 🙂

Thanks for the advice. I took the dress back to the tailor today. She was not happy about the last minute notice, but she’s going to work on it.
I guess this is a lesson in trusting my instincts. I should not have taken the dress home last time, but I was indecisive at the shop. She convinced me that it looked great, and I wasn’t sure whether I was being unreasonable in asking for more. I’m so glad that I went back because I’ll feel much more confident at the wedding!

I’m glad you took it back. She may not have been happy with the last minute notice, but you were not happy with her work. She should have done a better job the last time. But at least you will have your perfect dress!
