I am getting married in October and bought my dress back in February. Within a few weeks of buying it I started having doubts (I should have deleted the photos of other dresses I tried on!) but tried not to think about it too much. Dress shopping was rough for me (to say the least!) so I chalked it up to the emotional rollercoaster that I had been on as a plus size bride.
I posted here when I finally found my dress and was so excited about it but I knew it was the complete opposite of what I was originally looking for (clean & simple w/ no train).
I had my first dress fitting a few days ago and am still having some doubts about my dress. The bust area is being taken in because it was too big and she cut out 2 layers of the tulle underneath (pic taken after it was already cut out) but other than that we aren’t doing many other alterations, just the hem.
I really don’t know what my reservations are about it other than it being the complete opposite of what I wanted when I started looking, and feeling like it doesn’t really complement my shape. I feel like it doesn’t define my waist the way I hoped. I wasn’t super excited when I put it on but that may also be because she had problems zipping it up so I had to take my bra off… she seems to think I won’t need one once she alters the bust area so we’ll see!
I am going to post pictures of the dress I bought and some others I had tried on. Give me your honest thoughts!
Dress I bought:

Second dress from the same shop:

Third dress from the same shop, which was 2 sizes too small so ignore the straps that don’t fit (ultimately felt this dress had a summery vibe to it and we’re getting married in the fall):

The only dress I tried on and liked that fit the “clean and simple” criteria (from DB):

I really like the dress you bought, and once the bust is fitted better I think it will give you the more defined waist you’re looking for.

klhg515 : Don’t have second thoughts; the dress you bought is the perfect choice. The placement of the appliqués make for a truly interesting design element, and adds to how very flattering the dress looks on you.

klhg515 : Hi bee! I honestly don’t think you should have reservations! But I understand having them. I DID THE SAME THING!! Literally for the past couple of months until the ladies here gave me their opinions and my doubts settled down. And like you what was getting to me was that it wasn’t what I had pictured myself walking away with! I love the dress you bought. The flower appliques are so unique and beautiful! In my opinion much better than the flowery details on dress #2 (you see that kind of detail in tons of dresses). And even though the bust isn’t fitted to you in the picture I find it to be the most attractive cut out of them all. And what do you mean you don’t feel it defines your waist?!!! It looks beautiful around your waist!!! You honestly look gorgeous!! I think you made the right choice and I hope the worries are soon washed away for you and you feel as beautiful in this dress as you look 🙂 I wish you had more pictures because I’d love to see the back!!

I agree that the first dress once altered on the bust will look wonderful. To me your waist appears the thinnest in the one your purchased. It elongates your shape and makes you look longer waisted. I think sometimes belt can ruin a nice hour glass shape by chopping the person in half.
I also like the way the lace ” flows” on the first dress. It looks more romantic and feminine. Don’t doubt yourself. Out of the four, I think you made the perfect choice.

Once the bust is fitted, it will be perfect.
I wouldn’t waste any time thinking about number 3. To me that looks like the dress everyone would expect a plus size gal to wear and really isn’t flattering. The one you chose is a real WOW dress.

klhg515 : The one you have seriously outshines all the others. I think you just have to get your head around the “differentness” of this dress from your original vision. I can see the bustline needs fitting but apart from that it’s perfect and by far the most flattering to your figure. That colour is just right on you too (way nicer than the ivory shade in my view)

You look great in the dress that you chose. Your waist looks very defined. I think that the background in the picture is kind of light and so that might make it hard for you to tell how small it makes your waist look. You made a great decision!

Dress three is my wedding dress
I really like the dress you picked out. Your waist looks smaller in that dress compared to the others. I think once it’s been fitted you will feel better in it. Are you whering a strapless bra or a bustier? That can make a big difference in the fit. You could always add boning to it so it feels like it has a more structured bodice. You could cut the train but it looks pretty with it. Have you tried on some belts or even just a plain ribbon sachet to try defining the waist? I don’t think it needs it but I had that same feeling when I was trying on dress so I get it. Talk to the seamstress she may have ideas. You could add some off the shoulder sleeves. Being plus size I did feel like I had a limited options and I think even after I picked out a dress it was hard to get past that it wasn’t what I had in mind for a wedding dress. Plus I never tried on what I had in mind because I couldn’t find it but I think you have to get over that.
