Hi girls, I need some advice.. I posted last week that my wedding gown had come in & the place over measured me by at least two sizes- the dress is HUGE- They also neglected to tell me up front that they do not store the dress… annnnd to top it off the place has awful reviews so I never had any intensions of getting it altered there to begin with.. Now I am fighting w/the owner to just give me my deposit back since they wont reorder me the smaller size and of course he is being a complete jerk about it. the dress is so big its going to cost around $600 to alter it.. i dont think its worth it.. i might as well go get a new dress in my size at another place, pay a fraction of the cost in alterations and thats it.. What would you do? Take the dress and find a place to store and alter it? Or continue to dispute the purchase and pray Ill get my deposit back so I can go look for another dress elsewhere? Or do you have any other suggestions? I am so disgusted by this place and the entire situation I really do not want to give them another dime or anymore business if i dont have too..

This doesn’t sound like a shop I’d trust with my alterations either! I’d take my gown elsewhere for alterations. You never know what vengeful people are capable of and unfortunately this is not something that you can really afford to mess up (as we have specific timelines for everything!).
I wouldn’t go down without a fight though 😉
I’d go back to the shop and give them one last chance to redeem themselves. “You can do the right thing and alter the dress for me with the CORRECT measurements or you can have a very dissatisfied customer who’s going to leave here and write GREAT reviews about your shop…”

When they ordered the dress, did they show you the measurements they had taken and what size they were ordering? When I ordered my dress, the woman told me that she was ordering the size she was, and why, and I asked if maybe we should order one size down (the difference was like half an inch) but she recommended I get the bigger size because it’s easier to take in than magically create more fabric. Was your experience similar to mine? If so, why did you allow them to order a much bigger size?
If your experience was different, then I think you have a valid complaint. Good luck!

@JMJ102411: What is the owner’s explanation for the huge size of your dress? I’m so sorry, this is awful.

I would continue to dispute it. Is it a chain or privately owned bridal shop? If it is a chain I would recommend threatening to call their corporate office and if it is a privately owned shop I would tell them that you will not only contact the BBB to give them a horrible review.
I can’t believe you are having so much trouble. I just returned a dress to David’s Bridal for a full refund with no problems at all and I hear many people have trouble with DB.

its privately owned – he told me they ordered me based on my measurements and i had to have lost weight since they ordered it- I can prove I haven’t lost any weight, maybe 3lbs or something but nothing crazy or even noticeable- Apparently this place is famous for “over measuring” so your dress comes in huge and then you have to pay them (assuming someone would want to) a fortune to alter it… its just a scam- the owener is the biggest jerk i have ever met in my life. Meanwhile when I went to try it on the first time when it came in, the woman who was helping me into my dress whispered “who measured you” and when i replied she made a face and said “yeah, you are going to need this altered..a lot” as i was holding back tears I didnt want to make a scene.. i knew it would come in big, i knew i would need alterations I just think its ridiculous how big it is, i had to hold the dress up when i walked so it would fall down ..there isnt a part on that dress that fits me, which I told the owner… they claim they ordered me based on my largest measurement so i said OK so then why isnt the dress fitting me there (my bust) which is a 34C i wear a size 26 jeans and they ordered me a size 10, its just a complete nightmare. I had a friend get a dress and find THE dress months later and got to make a full return (at a different place).. Meanwhile I only paid half and i didnt even take the dress and he wont give me my deposit back.. it really sucks and I feel completely helpless.

Did you pay your deposit with your credit card? Your probably best disputing it through your credit card company.
