What started out as seeming like I won the dress lottery has turned into a total nightmare.
In February, I went to an amazing boutique in Austin, TX that sells dresses I’d normally never be able to afford. It happened to be their biannual sample sale, and I found a Stephanie James Couture dress IN MY SIZE. This is a $2500 dress that I paid $100 for. Unbelievable luck, I know. So even though it was just eversoslightly too tight in the bodice, knowing that I was going to be toning up and slimming down in the months leading up to the big day, I bought it.
We took the dress to be professionally cleaned, ($125) and left it hanging in the bag until this weekend, and even though I’ve dropped a waist size in the last few months, the dress is now TOO TIGHT in the ribs! We’ve taken it to the tailor to be let out as much as can be inched out of it, but the he doesn’t anticipate he’ll be able to squeeze more than a half inch out of it.
I thought I was the ultimate bargain bride! But now my dress savings is getting less and less with all it is costing us to make this dress work, and it might not even work out!
What should I do? I’ve been considering canceling the tailoring (saving the expected $100) and ordering a JCrew dress? I hear they come very fast, and some of them are just a few hundred dollars. But I don’t know if I’ll then have to have THAT one tailored!
This is a nightmare. I’m having dreams that I’m walking down the aisle naked! Help me, bees!
